Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Both myself and my husband had a fantastic time on the tour. Peter was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. He really enjoys the tours and it shows through his talks about the city. I recommend this is not missed if you want to learn about the incredible history of Durham with a very approachable guide. I honestly can't speak any higher of the whole experience.

Our guide, Peter, took us on a well thought out, 2.5 hour, tour covering all the important sites of Durham city. He is extremely knowledgeable, with a very engaging manner, and was able to weave history, geography, and folklore together to keep us entertained for the duration. We highly recommend this tour.

My partner and I decided to go to Durham for a last minutes weekend gateway and that's when I stumbled upon Perter's website. Peter is so knowledgeable and friendly, to book his tour was possibly the best thing we have done on that weekend! What a brilliant way to see a city, and discover its history and hidden gems, especially when you are toured around by an expert such as Peter! Almost 3 hours went by like a blink of an eye. I have recommended this tour to my colleagues and friends, and I would recommend it to anyone who is visiting Durham!

Great value tour from Peter, a born and bred local who is passionate and well read regarding his beloved home town. He brought the history alive and shared a number of fascinating stories about local characters and people of great significance. He was very sociable and shared some of his own history which placed him and his ancestors at the heart of Durham and personalised the tour… a really enjoyable hour and a half. The tour does not walk too far and is based around the centre of the whole city. It covers the main attractions and is a great introduction to a gorgeous medieval city. Thank you Peter.. 😊

We joined Peter for his tour whilst with work colleagues. As someone who wouldn’t ordinarily book a walking tour when visiting a city I was so impressed and loved how he bought the history of the city to life.

Would really recommend!

Peter took us on the most amazingly interesting tour of Durham City! We opted for the full three-hour tour, which flew by because of the constant stream of fascinating stories and facts along the way. Peter has an astounding knowledge of the city, from ancient Anglo-Saxon times through to modern times, plus everything in between. I have no idea how he remembers so many dates! The tour completely brings this amazing city and its past inhabitants to life, and Durham provides the perfect backdrop to a well-paced, beautiful walk. Outside the iconic cathedral was the perfect place to end the tour, allowing us to explore the tomb of Cuthbert (and maybe Oswald's head) in our own time before heading to one of the many pubs Peter showed us on the way. If you're thinking of this tour, book now, you won't be disappointed! Thanks Peter, Claire and Dan from Dunston :)

I came across this tour a few days before a day trip to Durham and there was nothing else like it available online. My parents and I agreed it was the best thing we did that day and it really brought the whole city together for us, taking us to areas we wouldn't have thought of going to, or would have walked quickly through without realising the wealth of history around us. Peter is an ideal tour guide for a multitude of reasons; totally knowledgeable, personable, humorous and adaptable to the groups he has. It really surprised us that he hadn't been doing this tour for years as that is exactly as it felt. I have recommended it to friends and family already and will be taking a trip to Durham again to discover his other tours.

This was a great tour. We were the only people on it, as we were visiting out of season in early January. Really good value. We had already been in Durham a few days so we were familiar with our surroundings but the stories and history Peter was able to add gave us a whole new angle on the City. Also explained a few landmarks we’d seen and wondered about and pointed out a few things we’d walked straight past without noticing!

Really nice guy, knowledgeable, passionate about local history and tells the stories you will remember. Would highly recommend.

I was lucky enough to choose a quite day so had a solo tour with Peter. His enthusiasm is wonderful as was my 1 and half hour tour. Lots of historical info and some funny tales. The views were beautiful, such a lovely walk. I'm 70 and the walk was fine for me. I really feel like I learnt a lot.
I emailed several companies for a short walk and Peter's response was quickest with choices of walks and times, he was by far the best responder. His online system is easy to use. He was prompt at the meeting place and very well organised.
As it was Sunday afternoon my walk was accompanied by bells ringing from the cathedral, I'd like to think it was arranged especially for my tour.

This 90 minute evening walk was a great experience. Our guide Peter was friendly and personable and really enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the lovely city of Durham. We were shown the well known features and buildings of the city but with many extras thrown in. This was all accompanied by many tales and anecdotes that all added to the experience. Highly recommended
