Well maintained and well restored gardens with a very active Friends group. A great walk along the riverside from the centre of Durham

Pretty little gardens. Went here to see a Shakespeare play and it was a really nice setting for that

Beautiful Gardens, You should go there in a sunny day, I was lucky to access in an open day, it's very peaceful, and a beautiful place for everyone. Thank you,

These gardens are immaculately maintained and are in a wonderful location. We visited when there was a music festival taking place, and the place was buzzing with people. There were people serving homemade scones, pies, etc. in a tent and it was a nice place to sit for a while. The volunteers who maintain this place also deserve recognition for the work they do. Worth a visit if passing!

Stumbled across this place on a google search and decided to find out where it was. I parked nearby on a country style lane and walked down a private road to access the gardens. I visited on a Saturday so the gazebo and walled garden as not open, but I could still access the orchard. On the walk down there are some lovely houses with a horse and some llamas - great for photography. You can see Durham in the background.

The garden was beautiful, start of spring so things are just coming into bloom. Very quiet and peaceful - could imagine sitting here in summer with a picnic. I look forward to visiting again.

We had made a special effort to walk out to the gardens along the river bank and timed our arrival for one of the periods when the walled garden section was open. The volunteers here were friendly, knowledgeable and offered visitors a cup of tea in the gazebo. Interesting fruit varieties on show and some inspiring garden benches plus great views across the lower terraced garden to the cathedral. Recommended for a gentle afternoon's outing.

Stumbled across this little gem by accident. One of the Friends of the garden was there taking a delivery of plants ...couldn't have been more welcoming opening up the place for us and giving us info about the garden. Can't wait to return when they have one of their events.

What a little hidden gem! Such a peaceful garden to visit and you can join in too if you fancy volunteering some time and doing a spot of gardening. Very knowledgeable volunteers on hand to explain the history of these lovely gardens and what a great view of Durham Cathedral and City too. Well worth a visit and a nice walk up from the river.
