Autumn visit. Sleep steps down but the Art Deco handrails on the pathway leading down to the river are a treat. Trees a lovely sight. Pathway mostly clear but watch out for a slip when the path is wet with leaves etc.

This is simply our favourite thing to do in Durham. You can make it a short or long walk. The views are different around every bend and varies with every season.

This walk is amazing, and an extremely pleasant experience. While best enjoyed on a warm sunny day, I've also found it to be nice in the snow (just make sure your shoes have a decent grip). It's a favourite in my friend group when we...More

The start of this walk was adjacent to our hotel. It was very flat and out into pleasant countryside. Only drawback was there did not seem to be another crossing point and we had to retrace our steps.

The view of the Cathedral is breathtaking, and the walk (on either side of the river) is a joy. Beautiful and captivating.

A walk around the riverbanks will pass many of the landmarks of the city. On a frosty morning the walk took me past the Cathedral, the weir and the Radisson hotel over pennyferry bridge and past the illuminated seats and the heron (both gifts from...More

I love walking around beside the river, its peaceful and beautiful. The only sort of weather that I recommend you don't walk in is heavy rain.

We only walked about 30 minutes on one side and back on the other so an hour altogether at a leisurely pace starting from west of the castle near silver st bridge.
