I love this place, Mike keeps you coming back with his repartee and of course the excellent selection of perfectly kept ales. Been lucky to catch some great music nights too, it does not do food, but a bag of crisps is all that is...More

Visited on 3 occasions, one Thursday afternoon, lovely young lady on duty. Again on Saturday evening, when the most miserable old man we have ever encountered , serving a bar, was doing his best to clear the pub. He succeeded with flying colours! We left...More

Situated in a thatched cottage in Shanklin Old Village, this bar has a lot of character and a lot of potential, but is somewhat careworn and feels rather dated although it does feel to be somewhat of a survivor, indeed possibly a quire rare survivor...More

In the CAMRA book as pub of the year for several years running. Perhaps we needed to visit in the Summer. it is the cellar bar of a hotel, not sure if the hotel is still a going concern. Totally lacking in atmosphere & when...More

I was "served" at the bar by a person who was quite rude which put me off to start with. I confirm what has been written before about the décor etc. The thing that turned me off the most was the state of the toilets...More

Popped in for a drink as it has won awards as a CAMRA pub of the year, but oh dear, what a sad, dingy, dreary place, locked in the 1960's, with no atmosphere, appalling choice of snacks and indifferent staff. Think they should get out...More

A traditional old pub (aged, dark, cramped, old fashioned) with a limited range of real ales. It was ok, but it wasn't serving food in the evening which meant we only stayed for one, that was enough for us. Nice for a lazy sunny afternoon...More

Considering it was advertised as a CAMRA pub of the year I was very disappointed. It smells dirty and is very poorly decorated. The bar man was so unsociable and when asked what the house wine was, he told us no idea and just put...More

Seriously friendly people, staff and customers. We just stopped in as we were traveling around Shanklin and were delighted. The atmosphere is old worldly, and the Ales on tap were great. The local Yachtsman was my preferred. The bar tender was I was interested in...More

I don't know about that, but having been going to pubs for 36 years I found the welcome poor. The landlord seemed too busy to chat with cronies than serve, leaving the barmaid to do all the work.
