The National Art Gallery in the museum contains work from a number of famous artists including Archibald Knox, William Hoggat and John Miller Nicholson and there’s also a national library and well stocked archives for those visitors keen to explore the Island’s history further.There is also tearoom and gift shop located within the museum.

This is a great place to visit to learn about the history of this beautiful Island Make sure you see the introductory film before going round the museum It is good place to take kids on a wet day

For such a small island I would say they have done an amazing job with their museum. It covers local artists and poets, geological history, viking, celtic and up to date information.. The information and artwork from the prisoner of war camp 1914/18 was extremely interesting. The most surprising were the paintings and stunning silver/pewter items by Archibald Knox -... More

Fascinating visit - the art gallery section focusses on artists who worked in or painted the Isle of Man and the art of the prisoners of war is really interesting. A bit strange to start with, but we soon got used to the place. It was our first place that we visited, so the portraits meant nothing to us. We certainly knew the significance of that Earl after three days.

I spent a couple of hours here on a wet Friday morning and I could have spent longer. A very large and well set out museum (free entry) with a lot to see. Well worth a visit to this interesting museum for a good insight into Manx life and culture. You could spend just an hour or much longer.
