Affectionately dubbed the "Mother Road," this 2,400-mile route was the first all-weather, continuously paved highway linking Chicago and Los Angeles. The storied path is legendary for spawning America's signature roadside architecture and attractions, vestiges of which remain today.

Yes, we finally made it to Route 66 on our way to the Grand Canyon from Sedona. It was a beautiful route and an easy drive.

Route 66 is the Main Street of Barstow, CA. We took the W. Main St. off of CA58 and followed the road through Barstow ending at its intersection with I-15. The road passes through a lot of businesses and motels with their 1950’s looks. What...More

Surprisingly, the surrounding gift shops and stores do not distract from Route 66's nostalgic value. It's a scenic stretch of road; many great photo opportunities.

The run from Kingman,AZ to Seligman, AZ was the last "leg" of our Route 66 journey (have done previous parts before) and it is both awesome and sad at the same time. You can dead the "dreaded/route killer" I-40 from Route 66 and can see...More

Loved the history of this road. We may have only explored a bit of it, but would love to see more. Putting it on my bucket list to travel as much of the road as we can. It’s wonderful the efforts that have gone into...More

Little bit run down in some places, but still worth spending some time visiting curiosity museums along the way. Time definitely goes much slower here. It’s a must see kind of attraction, if you drive a car around this route.

I've been on various parts of the route in NM, Texas, and OK many times over the years. If you go through Shamrock and McLean,Texas, check out the old gas stations.
