Having walked the West Highland, Great Glen and Speyside Ways the Cateran Trail was next on the list. We decided to break it into 3 day; I think they recommend 5. We stayed in Blairgowrie at the conformable Victoria Hotel the night before we set off to allow us an earlier start. We grabbed our lunch at the Tesco in... More

My mother, dog and I walked the Cateran Trail and had a fantastic time. The trail had spectacular views, was extremely well sign-posted throughout, and was moderately challenging but always still enjoyable. Favourite bit: Enochdu to Spittal of Glenshee. FInding accommodation is tricky though (particularly in Glenshee).

We hiked part of the Cateran Trail - Blairgowrie to Kirkmichael. Spectacular views and a variety of terrain made the hike very enjoyable. I am not a hiker so I don't know official hiker ratings but thought the trail required moderate effort overall with moments of higher or lower effort. I had knee surgery two months prior to hiking and... More

This is relatively easy leg of the trail. The climb out of Blairgowrie is pretty steep and could be off-putting to non-hikers, but it gets easier after that.

We walked this over four days, starting at Blairgowrie heading uphill to Kirkmichael. We had dropped off a bag at the Strathardle Inn on our way to Blairgowrie so we had less to carry the first day. The going was tough with boggy ground between Bridge of Cally and Kirkmichael, although the first part of this stretch was fine. We... More

Not too difficult, walking trail, but many interesting routes over the combined length. No great climbs, just pleasant walking, signed and easily navigated.

This was our first trail ever... and we loved every minute of it! Such beautiful varied scenery and enough time to enjoy it too. We did the trail in 6 days instead of 5 in July which made for a more relaxed experience. Whatever you do, don't forget your camera!

The food and service at this cafe is perfect! They cook the best cheese and ham toasties I have ever had and supply a lovely variety of food and drinks. The hot apple drink is well worth trying

Great waymarked trail going through a varied landscape with great views (highlands, fields, moors, forest). Definitely necessary to pre-book hotels in peak season because the villages are small and partly have only 1-2 hotels with 3 rooms each. It is definitely suitable for inexperienced hikers and families with kids (I would say >age 4). For an experienced hiker like myself... More
