Went on one-and-a-half hour hack on 10 August. Stunning scenery, headed towards Ruthven Barracks, then across countryside with stunning views for miles, then through the River Spey, which was low at the time. Included some trotting. Kersten, our leader, was very competent, friendly and informative. Beautiful day, highlight of my holiday, and had feel-good factor for days.

So like many I did my research on finding a fab horse trek for my self and two others. My intention is not to bash the company but rather enlighten others . We thought we would be getting a scenic riding trip like we did in Ireland and sadly ended up in a field on the outside of town. We plodded around then literally turned around and headed back . As adults who have ridden it was disappointing to be lead by a girl on foot walking beside a horse in the front and another similar situation in the back. We did not get to trot or see anything we couldn’t from the nearby road. It was a short trip and they did not offer to take pictures or tell us much about our horses. It felt very much as if they wanted to get back and onto the next group as soon as possible. I had higher hopes. If you want a basic very easy pony ride then here’s the experience for you.

Samantha it sounds like you must have booked for the wrong kind of ride ? If the girls were on foot it was probably a one hour trek or a 30 mins beach ride ? These rides are aimed at beginners and hence why the girls walk with the clients ? Our experienced rides are half days and full days and that is when you get to go up in to the hills it is just not possible on the very short rides. I am sorry you were disappointed but you should have explained at the time. We have been doing this for 70 years so probably have more experience than anyone in taking people in to the Scottish Highland Hills - Thanks Ruari (Owner)

We had a brilliant group hack! We were made to feel safe and comfortable, having a practise canter in the school before heading out into the stunning landscape! All of the horses were well looked after and very friendly. Our guides were fantastic too!!

A disappointment and not a lot of FUN!
We went on a 50 minute walk around a boggy field. ... no opportunity to trot and it felt the horse where incredibly bored of prolly trudging around the same field all day. Both the girls that took us out spent most of their time looking at their phones! Wasn’t overally confident considering I had my 7 and 9 year old with me and I had to point out my son was a little nervous and could someone walk next to him For a bit.

For over £100 I was disappointed

Dear Louise you must have booked on a 1 hour ride which includes mounting etc and is aimed at Beginners. The girls were right to accompany on foot with such young riders and especially if they were nervous. Did you expect the girls to jog round the ride if you were trotting ? With mixed groups like this it is not possible to trot and it is not what we do on a one hour. For fatser work you need to book on a faster ride and have experienced riders with you which includes trot. For that age and ability we would not have allowed younger riders to do anymore so you would have ridden alone and on an experienced half day or day ride you could have trotted and cantered but it would probably have been too expensive for you when you complain about 3 people for an hour for £100 ? The girls should not have been one their phones I agree. The "boggy field" you mention is actually part of National Nature Reserve and is also a Special Area of Conservation and SSSI. It is a meadow and is managed for wildlife and conservation we have been riding on it for 70 years and you are right the horses love the longer and faster rides too. On a longer ride you could have gone up the hills. Sorry you were disappointed but you should have discussed it at the time but there would have been no simple solution with such a mixed ability group. Thanks for your feedback - Ruari (Owner)

Lovely staff, horses & scenery. We managed to book in the night before for the next morning. It made our road trip to the highlands extra special. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely ride out for our small family group of mixed experience. Some riding some on carriage - all together, in the most gorgeous setting!
Thank you so much for a fantastic afternoon

This was an absolute amazing experience for my 3 year old. He loved the horses, he was taken to pick a horse from the wandering area, allowed to brush it, pet it, ride it and feed it. It was worth it.

We had a great visit. We got to ride two wonderful highland ponies which was such a treat especially for me. My friend had never ridden before but was put on a trusty, safe horse and we kept the pace as walk which was also the best idea. I am a more experienced rider but always prefer to keep it slower and on calm horses when riding elsewhere and my horse was well suited to me too. Lindsay who took us out was super nice. The yard is really nice and the large office was great. The scenery was lovely and we had a really enjoyable ride. Should we hopefully pass through the Cairngorms again we would happily return.
