About
This exciting and award winning, all weather, educational attraction provides a fascinating insight into the watery world of North Devon. The aquarium houses a diverse collection of local aquatic life in beautifully recreated natural habitats. The exhibits provide visitors with a unique zoned journey experience starting from the source of an Exmoor stream, down river to an estuary, local rockpool, Ilfracombe Harbour to Lundy and its marine reserve. Complimentary children's quizzes following fun trails are offered on entry. The aquarium also has a funky fish gift shop and a cafe, selling locally sourced delicious items.

A definite must when visiting Ilfracombe
Apr 2021
A Cafe taking CoVid regulations seriously as well as giving great service and delicious food. A great spot on the harbour by Damien Hurst’s statue. Everyone was making the effort to ensure check and trace was followed sanitised chairs and tables every time they were vacated full masks on the staff and after all that good coffee and cakes. I would highly recommend this location to anyone visiting Ilfracombe with seats both downstairs and upstairs on the mezzanine level.

Dishwasher coffee
Apr 2021 • Solo
Just had the worse flat white coffee ever. Tasted like water from a dishwasher with not even a hint of coffee. Hope this was a one off or the machine malfunctioned. Tipped it away

Decent reasonable snack, nice service.
Oct 2020 • Family
Unable to visit the aquarium due to refurbishment but very much enjoyed a relaxing drink, cake and scones.

Staff were friendly and also endured the Covid restrictions were adhered to in a polite but assertive way - clearly being very careful.

Food was reasonable and promptly served. Decent selection of cakes. Nice to have a cream tea and cake in the pleasant surroundings of Ilfracombe harbour.

Added to a nice day in this pleasant town. Hopefully can visit the aquarium part in the future.

Lovely
Sep 2020 • Couples
We found this little gem of a cafe after walking to find somewhere we could sit and have a morning coffee, we weren’t disappointed. 3 tea cakes and a piece of Victoria sponge, coffees and hot chocolates arrived after not a too long wait, although maybe a 4 slice toaster for your tea cakes 🤣 as I over heard it was only a two slot one! Still they were worth the wait and one of the best I’ve had!
Lovely staff with all social distancing measures in place.

End of Wales Lockdown
Sep 2020
We called into the cafe once again and they were all COVID ready. The staff were polite and the service good. We had a light bite which was lovely.
The cafe has a great position overlooking the harbour especially the upstairs bit.
We look forward to our second lockdown finishing and being able to call in again.

Dreadful (cafe)
Sep 2020 • Couples
Truly dreadful experience in the cafe, resulting in us leaving without the coffee we ordered. Excessive wait ....... over 20 mins for 2 coffees from time of ordering. Won’t be going back.

We visited the cafe today and couldn’t fault the service, food and covid precautions/cleanliness. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful.

Excellent service
Jul 2020 • Friends
Aquarium still closed but the waitress in the cafe this week was fantastic. Very tasty pasties and coffees with excellent service all while maintaining COVID secure guidelines. Would be very happy to spend our money here again.

best coffee on the harbour.
Jul 2020 • Couples
Couldn't wait to revist the cafe at Ilfracombe Aquarium following the covid lock down. Whilst the actual aquarium remains closed with a major extention and refurbishment in progress, the cafe and shop are back open.
As always, excellent coffee on offer with a slightly slimed down food menu. But still serving fantastic pasties, sausage rolls and cream teas, as well as cakes and cookies. Staff extremely friendly and helpful and obviously very COVID aware and taking every possible precaution.
Good coffee, lovely pastie all on the side of Ilfracombe's pretty harbour.
Wants not to like.

Dear Saffron, Thank you for your review. I think ther 'crab in a small cage' you are referring to is a plastic one down at ground level towards the end of the exhibits. We have put this model behind a port hole to engage with toddlers for a bit of fun. Trust me the object is fine and I'm sorry for the confusion. We are busy with winter developments here to improve on exhibits and visitor experience. We hope to reopne in May and very much look forward to welcoming visitors from then on. We hope you will consider a revisit. Yours sincerely, Lawrence
