I went for a walk along Southport Pier with a friend. The pier itself is well kept and makes for a nice stroll. There is a little train which goes across it (for children, predominantly) and I believe there is a café at the end. There are also some toilets at the end of the pier, which were quite clean.
The views themselves are not the most spectacular in the world, but they're not too bad. As you walk along the pier, you get a view over the Ocean Plaza Retail Park, which you can hardly call a vista. However, when you reach the top end, you look out onto the water, which is a bit nicer.
Overall, if you're in the area, I would certainly recommend a walk along Southport Pier. It's free after all, so why not?

Southport.....out of season it might have been, but outside live music, great atmosphere, plenty of parking and eateries.....it didn't disappoint.

We visited Southport as a family with one family member needing accessible routes due to using a wheelchair. We stay at the Premier inn right next to the Pier which was brilliant for walking to the town. It’s very well kept with some nice little huts selling refreshments. We enjoyed walking to the end of the pier in an evening to take pictures and walking to town for an evening meal. The information board on the pier was interesting, so glad this was reopened as it made our stay more enjoyable.

The pier gives you a sense of stepping back in time, the activities along the pier, skateboarding for all ages haha 😆. The cafe along the end is fantastic, simple food and drinks. Staff friendly, there is an ice cream menu for all tastes. The views from the pier are fantastic. There is a model train to take you to the end at a small cost . For a more mature person the arcade in the cafe building lets you play with old coinage. I would recommend this venue for all

The pier is great a good walk along this amazing construction. A bit crowded on the lovely Sunday but thats what you have to expect. At the end is a cafe/ funfair and I can only describe it as awful. Dirty, tiny toilets dirty, screaming kids, filthy floor, slow queues for a simple coffee and a place to avoid. A petrol driven road train spoils the peace going up and down the pier, previously a dreadful and useless bus on rails (cost a fortune and always empty) and prior to that a miniature pier railway that was always full !!
Sefton council lost the plot.
At the land end there is a pub with a screaming singer you can for miles !! helish and a total disgrace. Weekend visits off in the future.

An interesting pier in that the tide was out when we visited and the sea was still miles from the end of the pier. It was a lovely windy walk, on the wide wooden boards, dodging the land train plying up and down. You can see Blackpool to the east, and Wales to the west…hundreds of miles of coastline.
Well worth a stroll if you are in the area.

Nice long pier with a cafe at the end. There is also a train/trolley for kids and those needing help to get to the end. Very convenient. Take your time to look at and read the brass plaques all along this pier

Was at Southport yesterday and instead off heading along the pier towards the sea we went the opposite way towards town, so glad we did found a lovely dog friendly licenced cafe and also had live music playing outside. Unfortunately didn’t get the name of the cafe, will definitely return 😊

We walked along here yesterday and stopped in at the old style machines at the end of the pier which kept us entertained for ages. The cafe was great too with a good selection of food and drinks and the most amazing views of the sea.

Long but very pleasant Victorian pier that is very nice to walk along whatever the season. There is a train that runs along for those that get tired to walk back. (But it's worth the walk). Has a cafe and classic old arcade at the top end of the pier.

Hi
The cafe opens at 10 am daily.
Closing times vary depending on the weather and custom. Generally of a week day it closes around 5pm. Much later on weekends and school holidays.

We are taking a friend to Southport at the beginning of October. Would need to know if the train is running then as unable to walk very far.

I believe it does but it depends on the weather. So I can't confirm yes or no on the day you go.
