Love theatre, film, music, comedy and exhibitions? Then you'll love The Atkinson. The museum Between Land and Sea: 10,000 years of Sefton's Coast with the permanent exhibition Discover Ancient Egypt featuring The Goodison Collection means Sefton finally has a place to share its history. With Children's theatre, some of the biggest names in comedy, music and art The Atkinson really is a cultural pick 'n' mix for all the family. The Atkinson is a focal point for the town centre. Set in a grade II listed building in the centre of Lord Street in Southport. The Atkinson is managed and run by Sefton Council.

Howard Jones concert

What a lovely intimate venue. And the drinks in the bar were very reasonable too. Definitely would come back here to see a concert etc.

Great venue. Nice size. Front row seats are very low down but your right on top of the stage. Drinks prices were very good. Toilets a little small. Good place in the centre of town to view a show.

A library, theatre, art gallery, cafe and source for information of events all under one roof. My only constructive criticism to offer is I wish the library had more private spaces to read or work. I have Asperger's syndrome and for people like me having to always sit near people in open spaces is overwhelming.

The Atkinson is a wonderful building full of nostalgia, and a great place to take children to the library, theatre, museum, and exhibitions that they have on. Southport Resident.

Enjoyed the variety of exhibits on show, from local early history to later developments and even a Star Wars exhibition downstairs. Coffee and cake in the cafeteria were excellent too.

Well located with a variety of entertainment offerings from week to week. So far although their e-mails have given me interesting suggestions. Personal circumstances haven't allowed me to experience them yet. Though it is my intention to go as many people tell me it's a good venue.

We go regularly to see the monthly comedy night there and it's a great night out - love it. There's loads of independent productions on regularly which caters for all ages and tastes. The recent renovation works have been done to a very high standard also, great to see.

On the first Wednesday of each month The Atkinson hosts Grateful Fred's a Folk/Roots/Country/Americana evening organised by Colin Maddocks a.k.a. Grateful Fred. These monthly events are always a joy featuring 1 or 2 local up-and-coming artists (depending on whether the Grateful Fred Ukulele Trio are playing or not)! Guest artists from the UK (Henry Priestman/Merry Hell...) or USA (Compton &... More

The Atkinson is not only a beautifully renovated location, it has a lot to offer, a place to pop in for coffee, a good library which has a delivery service for sight impaired wanting talking books, a theatre and bar on the first floor, which also hosts an afternoon drop in for tea and coffee for the over 50s every... We've been a few times to the Atkinson - indeed we've traveled over 2 hours to get here and stayed overnight . They have great acts and with a room for about 250/300 people it feels very cosy if that's the word.
