Love theatre, film, music, comedy and exhibitions? Then you'll love The Atkinson. The museum Between Land and Sea: 10,000 years of Sefton's Coast with the permanent exhibition Discover Ancient Egypt featuring The Goodison Collection means Sefton finally has a place to share its history. With Children's theatre, some of the biggest names in comedy, music and art The Atkinson really is a cultural pick 'n' mix for all the family. The Atkinson is a focal point for the town centre. Set in a grade II listed building in the centre of Lord Street in Southport. The Atkinson is managed and run by Sefton Council.

Excellent and varied facilities. Clean and welcoming environment in a much loved building that has been the key meeting point on Lord Street for many many years. The recent renovations maintain the originality of the location.

I've been to the Atkinson on many occasions for Various exhibitions. Being a child of the 70's and male I could not wait to attend the 'star wars' exhibit. The reality was very good. Sadly quite difficult to navigate around though? Clear sign posting internally would help greatly. The rarity of the exhibition was leaking slightly with no real eureka... More

Bright, clean and very interesting place to visit. The white busts were on loan from the Liverpool Museum when we visited, it is great to see the history of Southport but also there are egyptian mummys and artefacts. It's a great place to visit for a few hours.

Art gallery is well worth a visit with a room of Roman marbles nearby. There is also a permanent exhibition of local history. Get there early in the afternoon as it closes at 4 pm in the winter months.

Thanks for your review. The galleries close at 4pm all year round. However, we would always suggest checking on the website for the most up to date opening times. Hope to see you again soon. More

End of year school performing arts performance, tickets purchasable from venue. Nice venue, lots of character yet still modern/clean. Would recommend and visit again for another show. I noticed there's a shop and cafe in the venue too.

Having visited Southport many times, I have never ventured into this building before. I knew if had undergone a great deal of updating and was curious to see the results. It was actually three Victorian buildings which have been amalgamated although it still retains the high ceilings. The exhibition area gives a history of Southport and another area is a... More
