Unfortunately we could only visit the grounds as there is still lots of building work going on, However, the building itself is worth seeing with the lovely gardens and park nearby,

There’s lots of work going on at the castle, dramatic stepped gardens, landscaping and interior work to the main house. We walked the grounds and appreciated the history which is well told outside the grounds on tablets underneath the new Tower.

The grounds and castle are undergoing some refurbishment which means that access can be limited. But the walk we enjoyed was great - helped by a sunny autumn day.

was informed this was a good place to visit, however on arrival we found it closed until next year, no access to the grounds either

Unfortunately the castle itself is closed until 2019 but the deer park adjacent is open and is nice to walk around; go up to the deer house it is very impressive.

Loved our walk around the grounds of this olde style building. Sorry I didn't take any photos. But at the minute (Sept 2018) it's like a building site and it's not very wheelchair friendly unless you have a powered chair. Not sure what it's going...More

The castle and it’s grounds are truely brilliant. We had such a lovely time doing around the park together. It’s quite a building to have so close and such a great example of a country park.

Great visit to behind the scenes. Really looking forward to when it’s fully open early next year. The plans for it are superb. So much to do in the area by next year!

You can still visit the grounds and it is lovely for a picnic. The grounds go down to the river and you can look across to Binchester Roman Camp. The castle has a great history and will be well worth visiting next year.

Although building work is in progress, the atmosphere and parklands were well worth the visit. We went back two more times during our three days in Bishop. Loved all the trees in the parkland too.

Thank Chris M
