Dominating the skyline for miles around, Stirling Castle is a shining example of Renaissance architecture. Visitors can look out from its high stone walls to the battlefields of Stirling Bridge where great medieval armies clashed to decide the fate of nations. Home to generations of Scottish monarchs including, Mary Queen of Scots, the Castle is an enduring and powerful reminder of our fascinating history.

A must see for all history buffs. You can feel the history all around. You can either do a guided tour or rent guide headphones. You can take pictures all over the place.

I'm a pretty independent traveler, and don't always opt for the guided tours, but we took one at Stirling Castle. It was fantastic--the guide was getting a graduate degree in Scottish history and was very well informed, well spoken, and terrific. I learned a lot....More

Took Scotrail from Queens St station in Glasgow. Quick 30 minute trip. Hired a cab to show me around and had a great time! This is what I expect a castle/palace to be like, with its residence, great hall, chapel, gardens and wall walk. And...More
