About
Dominating the skyline for miles around, Stirling Castle is a shining example of Renaissance architecture. Visitors can look out from its high stone walls to the battlefields of Stirling Bridge where great medieval armies clashed to decide the fate of nations. Home to generations of Scottish monarchs including, Mary Queen of Scots, the Castle is an enduring and powerful reminder of our fascinating history.

    Fabulous Scottish castle
Stirling the ancient capital of Scotland has a fab castle with great views of surrounding land. Walk along the castle walls. Lots of militaria in the regimental museum The heads, tapestries, great hall, royal kitchens We wandered around with an info guide sheet but there are guided tours or you can get an audio guide. Book your tickets online before you arrive as its a lower price. Oh and a good cafe.

    Well worth a visit!
Great place to visit. Beautiful in- and outdoors. In the appartments are guides in historical costumes that can answer all your questions and have some stories of their own. Audioguide is very helpful. Plenty of facilities. Parking is good, Very nice cafe. Worth a visit.

    Very Nice Visit
Visited with my wife and daughter. We all highly recommend. To begin with we had great weather, which is nice due to all the outdoors stuff to see. If you get the chance, take the guided tour, which took just under an hour. Russell was extremely knowledgeable and very personable. Be sure to leave another one to two hours to walk around the grounds and buildings that were discussed on the tour but not visited. There is lots to see, but if you don’t have that much time, be sure to at least tour the castle on your own.

    Amazing place!
Stirling castle is fab, and well worth the entry fee! There’s so much to look at and loads of information, plus the guides and actors are very knowledgable and friendly. Stopped off here on advice from a friend on our NC500 trip and we definitely think we made the right choice coming here!

    So much to see
We thought maybe allow 2 hours, but were enraptured for 4 and a half! So much to see in the castle and great views from. Superb guided tour which takes about an hour (included in admission) to give overall context then off and explore. The clever thing is how they use many different techniques to make it all so accessible and interesting - there are traditional rooms and museum type exhibits, costumed actors explaining things, short videos etc. Allow time for refreshments too in the excellent cafe.

    Memorable visit
We spent a little over 2 hours here and would say we had a memorable visit. The castle itself is awesome and the location and scenery is beautiful. The history of this site is fascinating and the staff are all so welcoming and helpful. Would definitely recommend this on your places to visit list

    Castle of Strategic Importance
Stirling Castle was an amazing icon to visit on both visits we’ve made to Scotland! Post pandemic arrival necessitated making a reservation for entry, but no problems gaining entry a bit earlier than our reservation time. Got to enjoy the entire castle as well as leaving a bit of coin in their well-stocked gift shop! The historical significance of Stirling Castle was accurately depicted and well-described throughout the castle grounds. Great history lessons!

    A must do visit
This is a must visit attraction. There is so much to see here and you will not be disappointed. Our suggestion is, do one of their free tours of the castle. We had Andrew as our guide and he was outstanding. His professionalism, knowledge and delivery of the information was excellent. Make sure you see all exhibitions. A visit to the castle can be made into a full day attraction.

    Beautiful Castle
This is a must see castle. The interpretative exhibits were terrific. Especially memorable were the full size figures dressed in historical costumes preparing a royal banquet down in the castle’s kitchen. We had to reserve tickets to see this castle, as this is a very popular site. The views from the castle over the countryside were fabulous.

    Breathtaking
I have never been to a more beautiful castle. From the way in which the buildings and history was preserved to the staff and role players on site, the views are breathtaking and I would love more time to take it all in. I must say, I was well impressed. Joni our tour guide was spectacular. Her story telling abilities are matched by none. Thank you for preserving such a beautiful piece of history and for sharing that history with the world.

Very nice tour, lots to see and learn at the castle. History ties in to that of many of our other stops. Easy to get here by train from Edinburgh. If you plan to see a number of sites in Scotland, get the Explorer Pass from Historic Scotland!

(This review is not about the castle views and location its about the rights to park). The views from the castle were amazing you could see for miles at all view points.the guides were knowledgeable and friendly .The history of the battle for survival and family life are all on display. However the drive to the castle from the town centre has steep and narrow streets, especially in a coach. Upon arrival at the drop off point I was informed by a carpark attendant that I was not allowed to park and wait for my foreign exchange pupils although clearly they had 3 or 4 spaces available next to other coaches. Asking why to be told its the company policy not to let school parties park and wait .this is discrimination picking and choosing who they think is going to spend the most time and money .

Our entrance ticket allowed us to be apart of a small group tour of the property. Our guide was knowledgeable with a touch of humor, and new just how to keep things interesting! Would definitely recommend walking with a tour guide versus wandering independently.

Much too see. Very helpful staff. Especially recommendable in sunny bright weather, as we had on our tour. If you're into Scottish history, it's an essential visit.

Excellent experience at Stirling Castle. As well as the usual self-guided stuff, the tours are free and just the right length, even with little people in tow.

What made it for us though, were the staff in character who chatted away to my son and really brought the whole experience to life - he was mesmerised.

The only criticism I have is that car parking isn’t guaranteed, even with a pre-booked ticket. We were lucky and there was a space - not sure what we would have done if there wasn’t.

Spectacular castle with great history! Definitely go on one of the free history tours. Brian was excellent, very funny and told us some funny questions he gets from American visitors. Went on a very hot Saturday and it was surprisingly quiet.

Far better than Edinburgh Castle!

I went with family today my husband and I have been before to the castle this time we took my uncle and dad it was their first time in the castle and in Scotland. My dad was in a wheelchair and from entering the car park it was made very easy for us. Parking was £4 although being disabled we did not pay but in all honesty I would have been happy to pay. Once in the castle the staff were very helpful offering to change my dad's wheelchair for one one their own with much better wheels for the castle terrain. This was a god send and allowed my husband and I to push dad much easier to access parts of the castle. There is also a lift to areas and staff directed us and called ahead so the we could enter an easier route. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff or guides here they have si many interesting facts on the castle, they are full of knowledge, enthusiasm and are very funny, we took the 11.30am tour the guide was excellent our only downside was it was a big tour and as dad was in the wheelchair and mostly at tge back he couldn't see much or hear very much as his hearing was poor as well and he could read the guides lips a smaller tour may have been better for us, but we did still enjoy it. The castle is wonderful much better in my mind than Edinburgh and you feel like you have been transported back in history. Talking of that in the Palace they had living guides dressed in the attire of the times as certain characters you may have seen in the castle. We met Seamus Campbell the Guard in the Queens rooms he was great full of knowledge and such a pleasant all round person even though he does support man United and we are Liverpool fans we loved him. I have attached a photo. 10 stars plus to the castle.
2 star review avoid the cafe expensive poor service and not a lot of choice unless you want everything with salad or ham. We queued for quite a while then my husband eventually got a sausage roll it came with a salad no other choice and as he cannot eat most salads it was just the sausage roll at £11.50 it was ridiculous we were not given the choice of hot or cold and when I asked for no salad it was still given. I got a child's sandwich at £3.50 just plain it was OK but still expensive if you do have a few children. My advice is take a packed lunch and avoid the cafe. Although give the table cleaners their due they were doing a good job of turning the tables around quickly.

We had a magical experience at this fantastic Castle. Thanks must go to Charles our expert guide. He really made the stories of the past come alive with passion and humour. Loved every minute and could have listened all day. The views from atop were splendid. What a day ... thank you.

My second visit to Stirling castle. The place was heaving with very large tour parties. Also several large groups crowding the small rooms and large tour groups listening to the guides shouting information during the guided tours.Gate ways and passages blocked.I fled as soon as I was able to find the exit.

Thanks for your review of your visit to the castle. We are sorry to hear that it did not live up to expectations. We have introduced timed ticketing arrangements as part of our advance on-line ticket sales. We can assure you we continue to monitor and assess this situation, and recommend booking in advance for best value and to guarantee entry at your preferred timeslot. We don’t permit guided tours within the palace apartments, but do permit external guides to lead their groups in the grounds. This helps ease congestion at busier times within the smaller apartments – our staff will try to help visitors by diverting when too busy to explore other bits of the castle and come back again. Thanks again for taking the time to leave a review.
