Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just opposite the heritage Pickering railway station.
Half the books are related to trains and the railway. So if this is your interest the shop deserves 5 stars.
Otherwise it's a traditional second hand book store that seems to be disappearing from high streets.

What a great shop. Les is very helpful. Asked about large print books for elderly mum brought out a selection which have been great to get my mum back interested in books again especially Royal Family.

Thanks once again. Hope Les and family ok as the shop is closed sending best wishes

I had an extraordinary experience in this bookshop which I acknowledge differs greatly from many other reviewers. Upon entry, the Bookseller asked me if I was looking for anything in particular. I explained that I just wanted to browse. He then asked me if I was interested in fact or fiction. I explained again that I just like to browse quietly, fact and fiction, as I tend to buy books that catch my eye, rather than hunt for anything in particular. He then went on about being able to find any book in his stock in less than a minute; I tried a "thank you" and tried to move away and at least have a quick look round. Nor feeling comfortable however, I tried to leave the shop a couple of minutes later, whereby he followed me to the door and started haranguing me about the the fact that he'd "made his money", "wasn't trying to sell me anything", knew all his stock etc etc. I tried to explain that all I wanted to do was browse quietly but I couldn't get a word in edgeways, and eventually had to stem the flow of his eloquence by escaping from the shop, never to return.

Whether this was a one off, or he simply didn't like the look of me (I'm quite inoffensive) I don't know, but my lasting impression is of a man who may know all there is to know about books in general, and his own stock in particular, but knows nothing about how to deal with people who may want to buy their books in peace. I exited feeling uncomfortable and angry, a new experience having been to hundreds of bookshops in my time.

A great book shop with a broad variety of books at reasonable prices. The shop has a massive turnover of product and I never fail to leave there with four or five books. My special interests are contemporary fiction, travel, biographies and music and there's always something to catch my eye. I told my wife I'd be two hours in "book heaven" I've been going there for years and will continue to visit whenever I'm in the vicinity - highly recommended

The owner is friendly and extremely knowledgeable .
The small shop is well organized and filled with books for all sorts of interests yet it is NOT junky like some. The prices are very fair and perhaps undervalued considering the excellent condition of the books.
You should not miss a visit to this charming shop if you are in this area of Yorkshire.

An absolute gem of a shop, thought I had almost all James Patterson, chin hit the floor when in here as at least 6 I don’t have that weren’t even on my list, as for my dad he was in his element as has recently converted to Lee Child & got 4 from his list, sure he’ll be twisting my arm to take him back before this holiday is over!

Visited today based on reviews & wasn't disappointed. A great little shop packed to the rafters. My wife & I bought 9 books & will definitely visit again - a really top notch secondhand bookshop. Well done to the people that run it.

This bookshop is a treasure, I never visit Pickering without calling here, even missed taking a shot of a steam train across the road in my eagerness to call there. The man who has run the shop for years is a true gentleman, a diamond of a man, not driven by greed or the type you need to count your fingers after shaking hands, not that this is safe at the moment. Art books for a pound, the treasure for me was "George Soper's Horses: A Celebration of the English Working Horse", a little known equestrian artist of a time when people knew how to draw. A time of the great illustrators like Arthur Rackham. There cannot be another bookshop in the country like this, well at least not in the North. Make sure you go home with an armful of books.

Travelled the world visiting bookshops. Simply one of the best. No theology which I read but plenty of military which I also read.
