Beautiful calm walk on a warm day. Really pretty location. Ideal for when you want to have some quiet time. If it's a warm day grab an icecream and enjoy the surroundings.

Pickering Castle could be a super tourist attraction as it is a really old castle with good grounds situated in a lovely market town. Sadly, English Heritage, in their wisdom, pay it scant attention. It is opened in an almost desultory fashion in the summer months. It has few amenities and no events. If local people try to organise events... More

Went here with my girlfriend and puppy for a walk around. The place is fairly small but is very interesting, great views of the area from the top!! The staff are very enthusiastic and helpful, great little gift shop with some very nice bottles of drink. An inexpensive couple of hours. Would 100% recommend to people.

A beautiful area with great views and interesting history. We are two adults and thoroughly enjoyed the site. The kids there were entering into the spirit and seemed to be enthralled. A great visit in the fine weather.

Castle #1 on our self-drive itinerary visiting North Yorkshire with a 16-day English Heritage Overseas Visitors Pass. Just an hour from York, on the way to Whitby, Pickering is a pleasant detour for lunch and visiting the castle. Our SatNav had trouble finding it and took us to a dead-end street next to the castle, a lovely resident came out... More

These are always a gamble with children of ages 10 and 12, however the kids enjoyed it and using the the tour book you can systematically get a real feel for the history of the place without being overwhelmed by too much information on a family trip. The kids enjoyed running around in a safe area, up and down steps... More

If you're not a member or not wanting to pay the cost of entry, you can enjoy the free walk around the walls, and then pop into the shop within the walls for an ice cream, take a sneak peak as over your shoulder, then go and enjoy it sat on the grass outside under the trees.
