    A Holiday Treat
Prior to heading west to Bodmin as part of a short break in Cornwall my research revealed that the museum had a section on the 1857 Mutiny/Rebellion and the siege of the Residency in Lucknow. Having been fortunate to visit the Residency while on business in India I was interested to read that a young trainee curator had reviewed the displays on Lucknow and the siege. I was pleased to see that it was not a wokeover but a sensible, sensitive and subtle change. Well done to her. I found the rest of the museum interesting and well curated. On the day we attended it was just after the school holidays and we virtually had the place to ourselves which was great. We were there for about 3 hours and had a great visit.
Thank you for your review, we're glad to hear your thoughts on the changes to the Lucknow display, and happy to hear you enjoyed your visit.

    A Little hidden gem
After walking out the train station we stumbled upon this little gem of a museum. Packed full of history, artifacts dedicated to the history of the Cornwall Army regiments. Along with that helpful, friendly and enthusiastic staff. This is a dog friendly venue, which is a bonus as we had our 4 legged friend with us. For anyone that has an interest in military history I'd certainly recommend a visit.

    A little gem
We went here as a mornings visit, I have a love of military history and love a regimental museum. Looking round the museum it was full of the history of the regiments in Devon and Cornwall. There’s loads of information all laid out with a wealth of uniforms and exhibits backing and showing the regiments history. Top this with a decent shop for buying mementos it’s a decent way to spend a couple of hours at not a lot of money.

We visited this museum as my son is very interested in military history. It is £7 to the enter the museum and for this price you can return as many times as you like for a year. The museum is packed with exhibits, including a great amount of weapons. There is even a piece of the Berlin Wall. I particularly found the PTSD wall interesting. There was also a lot of interesting information on the Light Infantry, including a very interesting video. I found this particularly interesting as there was a regiment based in my home town of Shrewsbury and Shrewsbury featured in the video. This museum is excellent and very interesting, even if you are not a military enthusiast.

A pleasurable visit today for a cheap price may I say! We arrived early to our time slot and was well catered for by the volunteer staff member (unsure of his name my apology) we got a mini history lesson before heading around the museum. Lots to look at and read, well stocked memorabilia and history of all wars. Would totally recommend to all, even with the cheap entry you have a years pass to return which is brilliant. Will defiantly come back when we visit Cornwall again. Top hour or so out 👌🏻 I hope these sort of places keep going for future generations to look and learn from!

10 years ago I came to the adjacent steam railway with a group and saw this museum.I wished I could go to the museum instead.
Well finally today I made it to the museum.
It really is first class.I spent two hours here and could easily have spent longer.Extremely interesting and worth the effort to get here.

Absolutely brilliant, a treasure of a place with so many incredible displays! Second visit and have again left amazed at what they have there, also found the second floor which I somehow missed last time, and the trench which my son loved playing in with the wooden rifle replicas - made his day to be in a real trench. We also booked the weapons handling which was fascinating and such a rare opportunity to hold some of the weapons they have in the museum, very informative and kept the kids and adults entertained. Such a wonderful resource to have in Cornwall, I reckon we’ll be there loads this summer and can’t recommend it enough!

Very interesting museum!
We went here with 10 and 12 yo, quiz and dressing up for them and they were fascinated with the uniforms and weapons on display.
The museum is well laid out, taking you up to relatively present day. A balanced view of several conflicts providing insight into those who stood against the conflict, or those whom the conflict was against that I don't think is usual for military museums.
Very helpful and friendly staff and we spent and enjoyable 2+hrs here.

We loved it! Very well thought out in terms of social distancing. We were met by a lovely lady who showed us some items And answered our questions downstairs first and then on to upstairs. The kids loved the Where’s Wally characters which meant we could have a good look round and a read. Some lovely items, with lots of local connections. The trench was also great. So good that it’s Dog friendly which made things much easier for us as we were on holiday.

We visited the Keep after going on the train as it was so close. So glad we did. The gentleman at the front desk noticed our youngest child was getting upset and came over. We thought he was going to tell us to keep him quiet. The complete opposite happened, he spoke to us and provided a quiz for him to do whilst going round. There's a bigger quiz for older children as well. The Keep itself is full of interesting pieces from 1700's right through to modern day. A great couple of hours spent. Well with it.

Great little museum that filled a couple of hours prior to the drive home. An interesting visit for any military enthusiast like me, or for those who enjoy small independent museums. A good balance between visual information and exhibits. Great value too (especially as entry gives you a years pass).
