Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A fascinating seawater lake right at the end of weston.
Lovely place to swim and admire the architecture of Weston.
You can swim or paddle board and there is a clean beach for kids .

I love Marine Lake Beach, its great fun for kids to play on the sand and dip in the sea, it's what attracts us to Weston-super-Mare, I really hope it can remain safe and available for families

Similar expierence to another review due to the mud. The area looks a lot better after the clean up and I was looking forward to an early morning swim. Parked nearby in Melrose car park which is a short walk away. Unfortunately the transition from beach to swimming depth is impossible to walk out. By knee water depth the sand suddenly changed to very soft mud and i found it ifficult to get up out of it. My daughter was so scared by this expierence that she returned to the beach to sit down. For swimming I found it easier to go to the very far side next to the walkway and enter by the metal steps. The depth here allowed me to swim from the concrete basin around the edge.

I would say that the lake is great for those who want to paddle board or swim from the far side. The transition from beach to mud is actually quite dangerous and children should definitely be supervised very closely. I found the main beach at high tide safer for families

Dredging work at the Marine Lake was completed in June 2022 to allow it to open to holidaymakers for the summer. The whole lake area has been tidied up with additional steps down into the water provided at a couple of locations.
Weston-super-Mare Marine Lake Mudlarks are a voluntary group who are helping to keep the area clean and tidy.
The Lake certainly lookes better thsan it has for some years, on a couple of our Weston seafront walks across the causeway and around the lake we noticed a number of folk swimming, and some paddleboarders on the water.

I have been so looking forward to this excellent venue being dredged and was really looking forward to getting into a mud free lake on the jubilee weekend, sadly it wasn’t the experience I had hoped for, great once you get out into the deeper water however the transition between beach and deep enough water to swim in is very very muddy and I had a job to walk in it as the mud was up to my knees and had strong suction, I could only escape it by swimming and then my stomach was right on the mud, so disappointing and I wouldn’t want to risk children being unintended, the depth is very variable as well, not gently shelving as it should be.

I will next enter the water using the new steps situated on northern shore of the lake.

Please be warned especially if you have young children. Hopefully this will be resolved at some point before someone gets stuck and forces closure again, a great job sadly unfinished.

It seems to be taking a long time, but with 30,000 tonnes of silt to be removed, it's not surprising. Shame the beach and walkway are closed, too, but safety first is the motto. Apparently the Council are spending £300,000 on this job alone. And £700,000 on the total Weston, Clevedon and Portishead works to the respective seafronts. Still, it'll be nice when it's all finished. I enjoyed my walk along Madeira Cove today, in any case and there are many memorial benches if you feel like a rest along the way.

The tide goes out a LONG way at Weston Super Mare leaving a large expanse of muddy shore. I can understand why the Marine Lake was so popular when it was built. It is a huge open air sea water swimming pool enclosed by a barrier between Knightstone to nearly Anchor Head, with a stretch of sand at one end. Unfortunately over the years it has got silted up so badly, it can no longer be used for swimming. It is currently fenced off as the local council are dredging the pool with the hope of reopnening it this June. Fingers crossed!

Marine Lake beach is popular with families with small children. However the beach and lake was closed in 2021 due to a large amount of mud and silt in the lake.
In March 2022 dredging work commenced to remove 30,000 tonnes of mud and silt, the work is expected to last 8 weeks, and the lake and beach should be open in the summer of 2022.

After reading some of the views and after doing research on this beach in Westin Super Mare it seemed very enticing. This feeling was reinforced after reading that North Somerset Council’s invested over £300,000 in Weston’s Marine Lake which is part of a £700,000 Great Lakes project. This probably didn’t help, as after reading this I had high expectations. I don’t know if anyone from North Somerset have visited any of the Great Lakes (globally). This was not it. It was a huge mud bath. I am not a specialist but over £300,000 to remove silt and you are left with that, something isn’t working. The term ‘should have gone to Specsavers comes to mind’.
The lake / puddle was obviously closed. I later read that it had opened but someone got stuck in mud and had to be rescued so it was closed. It now requires further financial investment to clear silt. Hmmmm. How much would it have cost to repair Tropicana???
It is unfortunate that I didn’t get to see what other people saw but don’t bother visiting.
