About
The Helicopter Museum in Weston-super-Mare is the largest dedicated Rotorcraft Collection in the world, with over 80 helicopters displayed inside the museum's iconic hangar! Favourites include two of the Queen’s Royal Flight helicopters, the world speed record holder G-LYNX (400 km per hour!), the Vietnam Veteran Huey and the Hind Russian Gun Ship. Explore the old airfield's restored Pilots Block where you will find the ‘Weston Aviation Exhibition’ telling the story of Weston-super-Mare’s famous aviation past. Outside on the old taxiway visitors will be wowed by the 30 foot ‘Bristol Bloodhound’ Missile - the rockets of which were made just down the road in Banwell shortly after WW2. You don’t have to be an aviation buff to enjoy the museum and there’s plenty for kids to do - interactive zone, film theatre and ‘Play Copter’ are all family favourites! Regular open cockpit days give you a chance to climb aboard, have the controls explained to you by an expert and pose for a photo!

- dragonara2Honiton, United Kingdom443 contributionsPlenty to seeWe brought our young grandson here; after drinks and biscuits,( the cafe has a limited menu but is spacious and well maintained, we explored the main hangar. We did bring our own children many years ago but there is obviously much more to see now. Each exhibit has a comprehensive description, the helicopters used for the Royal family were very luxurious! many interesting exhibits with their stories, the burnt remains of one, the helicopters used in Vietnam, to name but a few. in the other exhibition area across the concourse there were interactive displays that children of all ages could use which 5 year old grandson enjoyed. plenty of parking and reasonable entrance fee which is valid for the whole year.Visited December 2022Written 9 January 2023
- G..Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom173 contributionsDidn't know they were so big.lolWe went for the other half. Expecting to be a bit bored.. But I was nicely surprised.. Every helicopter as a little story to it. So it was interesting, But the most interesting was the two gents that work there.. One gent who was in the RAF, and an older gent on a scooter,,these 2 gents brought the place to life with their stories.. Really worth a visit.. Brilliant..Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 January 2023
- PippinTrackersTaunton, United Kingdom25 contributionsTop flight helicopter museumThis is a very well presented museum focussed entirely on helicopters. It is great for anyone interested in aviation or engineering but the casual visitor will enjoy the visit and will learn many interesting things. Each exhibit has explanation including technical specification of the type, history of the type and specific history of the particular aircraft. Actual for pilots, helicopter crew or repair engineers are on hand throughout to answer questions and share interesting experiences. The museum is filled with historic craft such as the Royal Flight and the helicopter with fastest speed record. Your ticket is good for return visits in the year too. We had a great day.Visited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 27 May 2023
- Doug PPortsmouth, United Kingdom27 contributionsGreat museumBeing ex RN FAA, when I saw this museum was close to where we were staying, I couldn't pass over the chance to pay it a visit. My only minor complaint is that they do not have any Sea Kings... Other than that, fantastic museum and exhibits (including some Russian), lots of information and a very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Cafe was good value and offered what it needed to. I look forward to hopefully seeing the museum get some more exhibits and expand some more...Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 August 2023
- Gareth J1 contributionWonderful volunteers brought this place to lifeMy teenage son and I originally visited on a quiet day during the Easter holidays; we enjoyed looking round but even with the information boards didn't feel we got to know that much about the helicopters. We returned (with the 12 month pass which you get with tickets) in August for the World Helicopter Day open cockpit day and were thrilled that we did - not only could my son sit inside 5 of the helicopters, but the volunteers alongside the helicopters were mostly ex-pilots. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and my son learned so much about how they worked and their experiences. Thank you to all those who give up their time for these days; you really brought the place to life.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 22 August 2023
- Dawn D12 contributionsKids need to be older to enjoy, but lovely placeWent on Wednesday when the magician was on. Really good family entertainment; got the whole crowd involved. Kids are 9 & 11 and probably the right age for this museum. They loved the simulator and being able to sit in the cockpit (which I understand may only be possible on some days). Entrance fee is a bit steep for a full family especially with younger children as I am not sure they will get as much from it as mine did. Husband loved it but was disappointed by the guide book. As a family we enjoyed this and all of the people there were so friendly and knowledgeableVisited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 August 2023
- Rob P1 contributionAircraft enthusiast paradise.Wow! A real hidden gem of an aviation museum. If you're a aircraft enthusiast or not make sure you pay a visit. So many historically important and fascinating aircraft to see. Many that you won't see anywhere else. Well maintained and displayed. A real must see. My only criticism is that the shop is heavy on toys but nothing about helicopters, specialist books or nice models for the enthusiast.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 22 September 2023
- aaronNorthampton, United Kingdom48 contributionsVery interesting and enjoyable even if you aren't interested in helicoptersEven if you aren't a fan of helicopters this is still a very interesting place. Went with family and we were there for over 4 hours as it was so interesting on the history and designs of helicopters. The number on display is huge and each has a description and at the back there is a workshop area for the engineers to restore and eventually display. There is an outside section but the building had a power failure and we were unable to view which was a shame. The engineers are knowledgeable and love to talk about their passion of helicopters and their history on restoring. Restaurant on site is very reasonably priced and the jacket potatoes are LOVELY! They don't receive government support, they don't receive national lottery funding so everything you purchase goes back into the museum. So come along and spend time there.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 1 October 2023

Went in March 2023 weather was very cold and freezing inside museum no heating . Wife not feeling well and so cold we left. We were told could have return visit within 1 year. We went back today 11.10.2023 and presented receipt to a very unacomodating man who said no entry with receipt but needed original tiny ticket stub!! No one told us this in march simply said keep receipt. He was totally uninterested. Very poor service..left very disappointed and would not go again.

Fascinating even for the individual who is not that interested in flight history. We spent about one and a half hours there. A huge range of machines to see and how do they ever stay in the sky?

Hello Helicopter Museum
I have never been, and see there is a Bus Rally there on Sun 11 Sept 2016,
which makes it a double attraction that day.
I can see on a map the nearest railway station is 'Weston Milton' and somewhat surprisingly this station seems to have quite a good train service, even on Sunday.
Unfortunately, I do not "walk very well" these days but can manage reasonably
short distances. Can you tell me approx. what 'distance' or
'walking time' ( fairly slowly ) it takes to walk from Weston Milton station to Museum.
It will be best all round if I can manage to come by train rather than long car journey.
Thanks for your help and advice.

Its quite a ways out from the station and not walking distance. We were staying close by the museum and had our own transport so it was easy for us to get there, etc. I'm not sure if there is a local bus service to there. Maybe a quick phonecall to them might get you the answer otherwise a taxi would be the only other answer.
How much is entry

How long do the pleasure flights last?
heli007
Weston super Mare, UK
Dear Heather,
Thanks for asking! Our Helicopter Experience Flights last between 6-7 minutes and cover a 15 mile radius over the surrounding area with view points such as Brean Down, Sand Bay and even Glastonbury Tor on a clear day! I hope this answers your question!
Kindest regards,
