About
The Helicopter Museum in Weston-super-Mare is the largest dedicated Rotorcraft Collection in the world, with over 80 helicopters displayed inside the museum's iconic hangar! Favourites include two of the Queen’s Royal Flight helicopters, the world speed record holder G-LYNX (400 km per hour!), the Vietnam Veteran Huey and the Hind Russian Gun Ship. Explore the old airfield's restored Pilots Block where you will find the ‘Weston Aviation Exhibition’ telling the story of Weston-super-Mare’s famous aviation past. Outside on the old taxiway visitors will be wowed by the 30 foot ‘Bristol Bloodhound’ Missile - the rockets of which were made just down the road in Banwell shortly after WW2. You don’t have to be an aviation buff to enjoy the museum and there’s plenty for kids to do - interactive zone, film theatre and ‘Play Copter’ are all family favourites! Regular open cockpit days give you a chance to climb aboard, have the controls explained to you by an expert and pose for a photo!

We visit long time a go but now I get the chance to put a review. I whose impressed. If you like technology is a good place to goVisited November 2022Travelled with familyWritten 29 October 2023
- TimBomfordWhiteley, United Kingdom60 contributionsGreat place to spend a couple of hours.A very nice place to visit with a wide range of helicopters to view, from early experimental ones to much more modern. Plenty of Lynx to keep me happy. Booked via Groupon for a great price.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 17 February 2024
- JuneBug1939Weston super Mare, United Kingdom4,716 contributionsReally interesting and informativeI visited the Helicopter Museum for the first time with my friend who is ex-RAF. He explained a lot of the display items to me. I was amazed at how big some of the helicopters are, never having experienced one before. There is a Sea King which I photographed and afterwards noticed my reflection is there too! There is a section devoted to the Vietnam war. All really interesting. It is rather cold in the hangar, which will be perfect when we return in the warmer weather (the tickets last for a year). There is another hangar being built nearby, so we look forward to seeing even more helicopters next time. The cafe is very nice and clean (tables wiped down regularly), very friendly people (volunteers, I guess). An engrossing couple of hours - kids will love it. If you need to "go", there is at present only Portaloos available.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 2 March 2024
- Sarah WinkleGlasgow, United Kingdom330 contributionsVery interesting museumThe helicopter museum is amazing. For the size of the museum, there are a huge number of helicopters dating back to WW2. I found it really interesting to see the development of the aircraft through the years. I would say, with most museums, it is very history driven, so younger children may get bored, but my hubby & I found it amazing. We went on a cold rainy day, so it was a great way to spend a couple of hours. The museum was really cold, so wrap up warmVisited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 March 2024
- scr1980Dorset, United Kingdom59 contributionsAn interesting placeAn interesting place I wouldn’t recommend if you have young children as you can’t sit in any of the helicopters and it isn’t very interactive. There are QR codes to scan and that gives you lots of info on each helicopter you see and there were some interesting ones to read about. We were not I. The bunkers overly long. We had some lunch in the cafe which was very tasty and very reasonably priced.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 6 April 2024
- Tom M63 contributionsFab museum for anyone very interactive and interesting!A great couple of hours looking around at all the helicopter exhibits. One of the staff called Paul who RAF Veteran was brilliant with us and spent lots of time talking to us about the helicopters and his years of experience. We thought he was fantastic and made our day.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 14 April 2024

- UncleAlan471370 contributionsAmazing MuseumOn behalf of the National Transport Trust, I'd like to thank the Museum for an excellent and informative group visit. We were welcomed by Jess and once we'd all assembled, we split into two Groups for an excellent guided tour of the exhibits before having lunch in the Belvedere Cafe. The Manageress there runs a tight ship and the food which we'd pre-ordered was ready on time and it was very good. After that, we were free to look around the exhibits at leisure and afterwards, everyone commented how much they'd enjoyed the trip. Many thanks to everyone who looked after us so well.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 10 May 2024

We had a nice time but it’s a few hours max, the price for entry reflects this though. Little cafe was clean and tidy with a decent selection. Well layed out museam, lots of helicopters and displays to look at. They have made the best use of space to get as many helicopters on display as possible. That said it is hard to get good photos of some of the machines, because they are so packed together.
Nice to see a Vietnam Huey, and the world's fastest helicopter a Lynx. Only reason it hasn't got excellent off me is that the person on the till was sullen and had a personality like the insides of a ping pong ball. Places should really consider who they put front of house. Cost of admission covers you to return visits within a year. Unfortunately due to current restrictions there is nothing to do for kids, in all honesty drop the kids and partner off at the beach or shopping. This place mainly for enthusiasts only. Will consider going again if only to view the Huey and Lynx.

Passing through as we’re going to Cornwall, place does not look appealing from the outside but inside lots of helicopters. You could spend hours inside (if that’s of interest to you) we had a two year old with us who loves anything transport related but even with the amount to see he was naturally bored after a while. Altogether we spent about an hour and a half, so not too Bad
Price for two adults was £20, I noticed the price had reduced from £15 to £10 for adults, £10 is just right £15 is a little steep for what it is.
Cafe on sight but didn’t take advantage, sure it’s good though.

Was given a groupon gift to the Helicopter museum from my granddaughters.
Saw signs on the way to Weston-super-Mare, thought about visiting but never had the opportunity.
Reasonable entry fee, which makes it a must, toilets, cafe and gift shop too!
As you enter you see boards and signs, the visitor hanger is going through a transformation to what check out the website. Has we followed the signs we approached what seemed to be display cases of helicopters. Further on you reached the gift shop and admission area.
Once inside a few more cabinets and then helicopters, helicopters from the early/ mid 1900s and from different countries.
Various manufacturers, such Bell, Westland and Sicorsky to name but a few, from all shapes and sizes.
They have special events running through the year which can be found on their website. Due to the refurbishment of the visitor centre the cafe was closed but would be open on event days. What an amazing place, I would certainly hop down again.

Really enjoyable experience. Quite inexpensive and over 37 old retired helicopters to see. With a free return ticket, you couldn't go wrong. It killed a couple of hours in bad weather as 99% is indoors.

As we entered we were told by the lovely ladies at the tills that two helicopters were arriving out the back so we rushed through the huge hangar and back outside to see two huge helicopters land and then take off again.... great!
We are not keen helicopter enthusiasts but thought this museum worth visiting as we were on our way back from Weston Super Mare and were very glad that we did. The kids loved it and so did the mother in law!
The machinery is stunning and there is so much to see. I also stocked up on books which were for sale at just 50p each.
Full of history and a fantastic place for everyone.

We visited this museum as a family (7, 12, 16) and the mother in law in tow.
Honestly, only visited to fill a gap in our trip as it was near our hotel. However we were not disappointed, everyone seemed to find it interesting and enjoyed the 2 1/2 hours we were there. The helicopters on display have all the history displayed, with volunteers moving around to give you additional information and stories.
There is display engine components to help understand the function which is interactive enough to keep the children entertained. With an aircraft open for the children to sit in and a volunteer was explaining how to fly which was a great addition.
There was a magic show, which was a little cheesy but the children enjoyed it never the less.

This is a great place to visit when travelling through Weston. The place is crammed full of all types of helicopters including one from the Queen's flight. The museum is run by volunteers who are all very attentive. There is plenty of parking spaces and a cafe on site. A must visit when in Weston.

Loads bigger than I expected it to be! Impressive selection of Helicopters, with interesting information on each one. Particularly enjoyed the Vietnam section and watching the 10 minute film on the history of the helicopter in their mini cinema. The staff were all very friendly and ready to answer any questions you may have. A magician was there to entertain the younger visitors with regular shows. We visited the cafe before we left which was clean and bright, with a small selection of well priced meals such as sandwiches, chips, and pasties etc. Definitely a good way to fill a morning or afternoon.

Dry interesting to be able to see helicopters up close. A huge variety to look at. Cafe was spacious with a reasonably priced menu. We had jacket potato, cheese and beans, served with salad. The portion of cheese and beans was rather small, making the potato very dry. Basic selection of food and drink, making it a cheap lunch. Staff all very friendly. Not recommended for young children as there were not enough interactive displays to keep them interested. We visited on a cold day in March and found it very cold inside. Dress up warm!

We visited the Helicopter Museum as my husband was taking part in a car event that was based there. I was interested in visiting as it was advertised as the "largest display of Helicopters in Europe". However, having visited other similar aircraft museums (Duxford, Hendon, Army Museum at Middle Wallop) this was not the case.
The helicopters on display were all a bit of a jumble, there was no timeline, or organisation in the displays of any kind. In many cases there were just bits of helicopter - fine if you are an engineering enthusiast but probably not of interest to the general public.
There was nobody (volunteer or otherwise) on hand to answer any questions or provide any information.
I also thought the displays presented a safety hazard for children (bits of metal poking out all over the place). There were signs informing people to watch their children around the displays (not so easily done with excitable children) but nobody enforcing the message.
The cafe was also lack lustre. Instant coffee (again not the quality advertised), a few sorry sarnies - nothing for those with dietary intolerances or allergies, some crisps, ices and chocolate bars. Hardly extensive fayre.

Hello Helicopter Museum
I have never been, and see there is a Bus Rally there on Sun 11 Sept 2016,
which makes it a double attraction that day.
I can see on a map the nearest railway station is 'Weston Milton' and somewhat surprisingly this station seems to have quite a good train service, even on Sunday.
Unfortunately, I do not "walk very well" these days but can manage reasonably
short distances. Can you tell me approx. what 'distance' or
'walking time' ( fairly slowly ) it takes to walk from Weston Milton station to Museum.
It will be best all round if I can manage to come by train rather than long car journey.
Thanks for your help and advice.
Written 8 September 2016
Its quite a ways out from the station and not walking distance. We were staying close by the museum and had our own transport so it was easy for us to get there, etc. I'm not sure if there is a local bus service to there. Maybe a quick phonecall to them might get you the answer otherwise a taxi would be the only other answer.

Dear Heather,
Thanks for asking! Our Helicopter Experience Flights last between 6-7 minutes and cover a 15 mile radius over the surrounding area with view points such as Brean Down, Sand Bay and even Glastonbury Tor on a clear day! I hope this answers your question!
Kindest regards,
