We were staying in Twickenham so it was only a short distance to visit the Archives office. Even though we weren't doing any research it was good to visit the museum and shop on the ground floor. I thought the shop in particular was very good. If you want to access the main library remember your ID.

Kew Gardens is famous for the eponymous botanic garden which is wonderful. I vist almost every day. Less know are the National Archives by the River Thames and a short walk from Kew Gardens Station. They hold the nation's hisotory and are a must for anyone interested in genealogy. There is a lovely small museum and a good cafeteria. There... More

Lovely site bit hidden away but a real national treasure Fascinating documents held here. Great to see classes of school children learning about our historical treasures

Even if you do not seek dedicated information, this place is a fount of knowledge and insight. Highly recommended if you are bored by the botanical gardens and a vast expanse of lawn.

I have spent many interesting days here. There is a car park and there is a nearby tube station. You need to have a reader's card to look t the files. You will need to produce evidence of identity and address before you will be issued with the card..Then you can go upstairs and call up files. These generally take about 20 minutes to... Although most people would normally go there to carry out serious research, it is very public friendly. Anyone with an interest in British history is welcome to go in as they usually have an exhibition on, a good bookshop and a nice cafe too.

The National Archives in Kew are in a lovely location. The building is fairly new, well laid out and the staff are on the whole, very helpful. I did a short course which included a tour of the archives. I think it took a couple of hours and allows me access for a year. They are very insistent on things... More

Could easily spend hours in this place as they have it all under one roof. It helps a lot if you go armed with as much info as possible, birthdays, addresses, surnames before marriage, service numbers if it is service life you are researching. The help desks were fab and enjoyed helping, however be warned they don't like or accept... More

Made a 2h trip to the Archives. Overjoyed that there was a free car park, so no time limit on my trip. Signposts weren't clear to the main building. Once inside there's a coffee shop to the left and a mini museum type room to the right. The coffee shop service wasn't very good as the 2 girls were chatting... More
