There is nothing quite like getting your hands on a pile of original documents that may not have been read for a 100 or more years. The set up here is amazing and so well organised. Its a credit to our country that we have this facility.

My wife is the genealogist, I just go to do the donkey work. She could have stayed all week, 24 hrs a day. It was brilliant. Very helpful staff, great facilities and obviously the best source of historical records in the country. There is a cafe on premises with a fairly limited menu but OK. The grounds were lovely with... I had to go here for a day of research for some work I am doing. The staff were very helpful and willing to assist in the smallest of tasks despite some visitors seeming very stressed. Even on a Saturday, it didn't get too busy and it, thankfully, isn't like a library where you can't talk. I went with a... More

The NA at Kew is phenomenal. Easy to access, easy parking, full of helpful and friendly staff who can make it easy to navigate the sometimes obscure business of identifying and ordering documents for research. Having said all of that the coffee shop is awful. Lukewarm nasty coffee. Tea bag with no room for milk in boiling paper cup. Small... More

We were staying in Twickenham so it was only a short distance to visit the Archives office. Even though we weren't doing any research it was good to visit the museum and shop on the ground floor. I thought the shop in particular was very good. If you want to access the main library remember your ID.

Kew Gardens is famous for the eponymous botanic garden which is wonderful. I vist almost every day. Less know are the National Archives by the River Thames and a short walk from Kew Gardens Station. They hold the nation's hisotory and are a must for anyone interested in genealogy. There is a lovely small museum and a good cafeteria. There... More

Lovely site bit hidden away but a real national treasure Fascinating documents held here. Great to see classes of school children learning about our historical treasures

Even if you do not seek dedicated information, this place is a fount of knowledge and insight. Highly recommended if you are bored by the botanical gardens and a vast expanse of lawn.

I have spent many interesting days here. There is a car park and there is a nearby tube station. You need to have a reader's card to look t the files. You will need to produce evidence of identity and address before you will be issued with the card..Then you can go upstairs and call up files. These generally take about 20 minutes to...
