About
A great place to walk, cycle and much more! In the heart of the National Forest, Hicks Lodge is a former coal mining site that has been totally transformed by new plantings and exciting trails for you to enjoy. A great day out for the budding cyclist, from tearaway toddlers to young teens perfecting their skills, we’ve got a range of trails for beginner to intermediate appetites. Visit our lakeside bird hide where you can soak in the beautiful scenery and spot some unique wildlife, such as the migratory sand martins. There are also walking and horse riding paths to explore the forest, a play area and a café!

Outrageous parking charge
Sep 2021 • Couples
Been coming here for years for leisurely walks followed by an ice cream and a hot chocolate at the end. It has recently been updated with a new visitor centre, cafe etc.
Parking is now classed as a full day if you stay for more than 2 hours, we arrived at 1244 and paid at 1446 and were charged £8 for the pleasure! Sorry a full day should be anything over 4 hours in my opinion.
Also 2 boxed sandwiches, 2 cans of soft drink and 1 bag of crisp £14.80.
Also noticed a sign for ‘Christmas at delamere’ with the intention of taking my older children to see the light display that will be there. On looking at the website a family of four will be charged £70 to walk through a decorated, illuminated forest with parking and hot chocolates at an extra charge. I’m sorry but this is scandalous.
Also I suggest you invest in better signage as 3 different groups of people asked us the way to different parts of the forest today as they were unable to find their own way due to the poor signage.
So disappointed in what used to be a relaxing, affordable no fuss Sunday walk. We won’t be returning.

Lovely forest
Aug 2021 • Family
Visited here for the first time since last year. Astonished at the development of the new visitors centre, cafe and car park. Several walks of various length, the grandchildren were especially taken with the Gruffalo. Paths were mobility scooter friendly throughout. I was also surprised at the number of people on the paths, shame about some cyclists/electric scooters who were not being pedestrian friendly. Later on had an expensive ice cream and paid £8 for parking, do download the Glide Parking App, then you can pay from your car and avoid the lengthy queues at the pay machines.

Nothing out of the ordinary and no better than any other woods or country park. Hoardes of people. Rip off parking charges.

Lovely place to visit but so expensive!!!!!
Aug 2021
We did a return visit to delamere following a very enjoyable visit in the past. The area has clearly had a considerable amount of money spent on it and is intent on getting the money back as quickly as possible. The walks really haven’t changed at all but the car park charges are absolutely sky high. In fact it was our intention to have lunch at the cafe but would meant a further £3 for another hours parking, we weren’t prepared to do so and left to find lunch elsewhere. It’s a great shame because the forest is a lovely area but because of the excess charges we won’t be returning.

Really want to love this place but just can’t seem to
Aug 2021 • Couples
My partner and I drove to Delamere Forest this weekend and this time we walked around Blakemere Moss, the lake opposite the Whitefield Car Park.

Being honest, we didn’t love it. The lake itself is quite murky and really swampy so you can’t get close to get a good view. The dog loves a little paddle but it was so muddy and dirty we didn’t let him.

The circular walk we did was decent - it took us about an hour it takes you round a cleared woodland path so nothing too strenuous. It’s really quite enclosed though so not too much to see other than the path in front of you.

We’ve visited Delamere quite a few times now and tried a few different routes. We really want to love it as much as some other walkers seem to but for one reason or another it just isn’t for us. In our opinion there are far better, prettier walks nearby - not worth the pricey parking.

We did find a nice pub on the way home though, The Goshawk in Mouldsworth. Only a 10 minute drive away from Delamere and it has a nice outside space for an after walk pint!

High car park charges and no concessions for the disabled.
Jun 2021 • Couples
Swinging car park charges are a great deterrent for many visitors and disabled who cannot afford these prices. It’s not like it’s a city centre where land is extremely expensive. Let us enjoy the countryside without ripping us off.

Before the new visitor centre and car park, parking was FREE. Park away on the forest outskirts and take a picnic and it’s still FREE.

Can only buy drinks at their cafe
2 cans of Tango cost £3.50
£8 parking for 2hrs and 8mins!!
Rip off

I have always loved Delamere Forest and before Covid I used to meet friends here for a catch up and a cup of coffee.
Just my 8 year old and me went today, booked Go Ape and arrived prior to our start time as I knew it was a fair walk from the car park and we’d need harnesses etc.
Loved Go Ape but couldn’t buy drinks there in 31 degree heat because they’re not allowed to sell them due to the cafe’s monopoly on food and drinks! Dangerous rule considering the exercise and heat involved! We were in desperately in need of hydration!
So when we’d finished I had to walk right past my car and onto the cafe.
It cost me £3.50 for 2 standard sized cans of Tango and by the time I’d bought the drinks and got back to the car I’d been there 2hrs and 8 minutes so the car park cost me £8!!
I was absolutely disgusted
I will not be returning, such a shame as it is a lovely place to ‘pop’ to for a couple of hours!
I don’t ever spend a whole day here so no idea how they think £8 parking is acceptable! Shocking!
If I hadn’t of bought extortionate drinks then my parking would of been cheaper. I’ve lined multiple pockets of theirs today and feel aggrieved. I live close by, this is not a theme park but they’ve adopted the same ethos.

Bad eggs
May 2021 • Couples
Came as a couple on a rare day we didn’t have the children. We came in the morning and decided to treat ourselves to breakfast. Both had the full English and I’m always excited by a poached egg (as I can’t seem to do them myself) so I added and extra. The sausages were really peppery for breakfast ones, the bacon was dripping in beans, the one slice of toast had skipped the toasting part and to my utter dismay, the eggs were like soggy eyeballs. I couldn’t eat them. I’ve never seen a poached egg like it. We enjoyed our venture in the Forrest and really wanted to grab the kids from school and return, however at £8 per park - it wasn’t to be :( perhaps an all day ticket should give you the option to return throughout the day etc?

HI I'm so sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your breakfast at Delamere Forest Cafe. We do recommend that if you're dissatisfied with a meal to raise it on your visit to raise it with the team who'll do their very best to help. I'll pass on your feedback about parking charges. Did you know you can buy a Delamere Forest membership for £40 a year that provides unlimited parking plus a range of other benefits?
