About
The Rowlinson family have lived at Abbeywood since 1987, during which time they have made many improvements and additions to the gardens. The year starts in February with many varieties of Galanthus in Jane's Garden, followed by other Spring favourites, Erythroniums and Trilliums, to name but a few of her rare plants. The Main Garden is divided into separate areas. The formal layout gives way to naturalistic planting within. Early May starts with Tulips followed by Alliums and Camassia. Seasonal interest continues until around mid September - weather depending. The Christopher Lloyd inspired Exotic Garden, designed around the remnants of the old vegetable garden, is filled with Dahlias, Cannas, Banana and other tender perennials. These continue until the first frosts. The Young Arboretum is planted with rare evergreen and deciduous trees for year round interest. A 2km, wildlife walk incorporates the existing and new woodland on the 45 acre grounds.

    Such a peaceful setting
Superbly set out garden. Something to see at every turn. Great we could take our dog in with us. plenty of seats where you can view the gardens from different view points. Lots of specimen grasses wave in the breeze along with cosmos and verbena bonariensis to name but a few.

I loved our experience here at Abbeywood. I booked an afternoon tea for a friends Birthday pressie and it was the perfect choice. We thoroughly enjoyed our food, drinks all served by helpful staff. We spent time in the beautiful gardens and the gift and flower shop. We were inspired by the lady running the shop who has a true gift with flowers..truly inspirational.

    Peace and tranquility.
I enjoy a walk around the grassed area. Always say hi too the horse. My dog loves it there. My friend and I will go in for a coffee and cake occasionally,we don't have time to go in every visit. The ladies always lovely, and my dog loves his bowl of warm milk. I highly recommend a visit. The gardens we're a bit bare, only because it was April, but the views are calming to the mind when you sit a while. Very special place for me.

My Mum had received a voucher for her 70th birthday so we booked on what turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year. Never mind there is plenty of seats in the shade if you choose to do the gardens as well. They are beautiful at this time of year and well worth a visit for a small entrance fee. The lady who served us gladly moved us to a cooler area in the garden under a much needed umbrella and we enjoyed our afternoon tea in lovely surroundings. Five sandwich fillings and a large scone with butter, clotted cream and jam and coffee, Victoria sponge and lemon drizzle cake were gratefully devoured. Lovely place, good and friendly staff. Would recommend

Cute cafe, slightly on the pricer side but still really high quality, fresh produce. The gardens are lovely to walk around, and I loved seeing the biodiversity of species, we saw frogs, newts, dragon fly and many other inverts. Unfortunately the koi pond seemed very murky and in need of some TLC, hopefully that doesn't affect the welfare of the fish. Stunning views, perfect for a sunny day walk, slightly on the small side. One complaint, shown in the rating is that we had valid student cards and therefore asked for the concession rate of £5 instead of £6pp which they then denied to us?? Why advertise concession rates online if you don't follow through on the gate??

We really enjoyed our walk around Abbeywood Gardens. This was a really lovely place to visit and very relaxing. We enjoyed watching the fish in the pond and the well organised distinctive gardens. Abbeywood is very, very popular for food and you need to book in advance at present due to popularity. This is a really lovely place and well looked after by the staff and gardeners. We would highly recommend visiting Abbeywood Gardens to others. Thank you, Kate and David Priestley.

Booked a table for afternoon tea on the terrace to celebrate our golden anniversary. Told by Becky that we would have to leave by 17.00 which was not a problem. Phone call received 8 days before the booking to say that there was also a wedding booked for that date and the kitchens would be closing at 15.00 which meant that our booking for 15.30 was not viable. Could not offer an alternative time to suit our party as some of them had prior commitments in the morning which is why we booked 15.30. Several e mails later over a period of a few weeks we eventually got our deposit back, but we're still waiting for a promised voucher? for the upset caused.

The gardens were quite beautiful and well maintained. A perfect wedding venue, which I believe is one of it's main functions. The food is OK, although my Caesar's salad was not the traditional fine mix of ingredients; they were simply piled on top of each other! The service is slow, even on a day when they were nowhere near full.

We had this in the RHS Partner Gradens book, no booking needed so decided to have a look. These gardens are stunning! From the tropical section you wend your way the some of the most beautiful borders I have ever seen. Whoever planned these has a wonderful eye for colour and design and even in early September they looked perfect. Amazing grasses interwoven with asters and other late flowering plants - absolutely wonderful.

We booked for a family meal at the cafe, calling firstly to confirm if dietary requirements could be catered for, we were assured everything was freshly prepared and this is absolutely no problem. When ordering I just asked the waitress to check if the nut roast (marked at vegan on the menu) had a particular ingredient in it. On returning I was amazed to be told it had eggs and butter in it, without even an apology! There were no other vegan options on the menu other than soup and a side salad and I am quite certain if I hadn't checked I would clearly have been served the nut roast without been told it was not vegan. I'm not a vegan by choice it is a medical diet and I think it is quite awful that so many restaurants have this lazy attitude to dietary requirements. Its not that hard guys sort it out...
I would say some of the staff were friendly and made us feel very welcome and the gardens are fine for a one off visit if a little overpriced.

We got married at Abbeywood on 10th July 2021 and the service was exceptional, from the point we first looked around to our wedding day and breakfast the next morning. Harry, Matthew and Lauren went above and beyond to provide an excellent and reassuring service whilst we planned the wedding predominantly during COVID - having an understanding supplier made a huge difference to easing our nerves. We received so many positive comments from friends and family saying that it was the best wedding they'd been to (!) and that the grounds, food and staff were wonderful. We would highly recommend Abbeywood as a wedding ceremony and reception venue. We also visited for afternoon tea with the bridesmaids prior to the wedding and found the cafe great!

This is an excellent place to visit. Parking is free and entrance to the gardens is through the restaurant. The gardens are spread out and range from formal to prairie. There is a children's play area, a kitchen garden and nature walks through the woods. It is easily a good half day experience.
The restaurant is very good and well patronised. I would suggest booking a table in advance.

We have visited these gardens many times and the gardens are beautiful. We have also enjoyed the tea rooms. However we visited today to find the gardens closed, even though we had checked the website before travelling. Compared to our 12 mile drive, we felt sorry for a group of three elderly ladies who had driven 35 miles to see the gardens. They had checked the website the day before for the opening days and times.
So instead of a 5 star rating, I have knocked off 2 stars as people don’t want to be having wasted journeys and facing disappointment.
