I didn’t actually get to Aphrodisias.
Stayed two nights in Pamukkale and booked a tour to Aphrodisias at a local tourist office.
They would only take the booking if I paid in advance.
Later that day they said there were not enough people wanting to do the tour and I should stop by the next day for a refund.
The next day they were closed and remained closed all day so I lost my money.
So I’m sorry to have missed it and recommend NOT staying in Pamukkale.
I also had an unpleasant experience with the accommodation.

What a magnificent and rich ancient city. Since the entrance, the sarcophagus collection has taken my breath away. I've never seen other ancient city as beautiful as Aphrodisias. It is easy to imagine the grandeur of the city in the past. Sebastianos is the most interesting spot and most sought (by me) as there is nothing like Sebastianos in other ancient city. The reliefs are kept in Aphrodisias Museum which is situated in the same location.

Minimum 2 hours to visit and I consider 2 hours is rush-visit. The location is not easy at all to reach by public transport therefore car rent is recommended.

This was a stopover on our way to Izmir from Pamukkale. Not a lot of people know about it so much less crowded than Heiropolis in Pamukkale. The theater is smaller but you can go down to the stage, sit in the governor's seat. It's where marble sculpting was taught so lots of unearthed sculptures were uncovered, many in pretty good condition. They also have a museum with lots of sculptures in it. There are walls built with the tops on columns with faces of the artist's impression of Aphrodite, some quite humorous. Overall a good find and would recommend.

A large site with extensive ruins. There are city walls, a theatre and a sdadium to see. The main area of interest is the Aphrodite Temple itself with its standing pillars. Plenty of places to wander and see if you have time. It wasn't as busy as some of the ancient sites we;d visited and yet lots to see. We had a guide as part of our Turkey tour - I think you need to go either with a guide or at least take a guide book to get the most from this site.

Well worth the effort of a 90 min drive from Pamakkule if you are staying there and have a car. Very quiet, no need to apply "magic erase" to photos to get the people out of pictures, no tourist tat stalls to avoid. In many respects better than Ephesus. Very easy to imagine the grandeur in Roman times. Visually stunning. A nice little cafe on site but no food.

We loved this ancient site. Part of the appeal is how remote it is and how few other visitors there are (we passed just a small handful). It’s quite spread out giving you a feel of wandering on your own to discover treasures and giving you a great feel of the size of the ancient city. The welcome gate is impressive, the gladiator stadium really monumental, as is the public pool, and most exciting for our family, the theater, all almost fully intact. This is a must see for adventurous types.
Sadly, the museum was closed for renovations.

We'll worth it if you're day tripping to Pamukkale. Very few people know about this place so you've got the stadium stadium and amphitheatre all to yourself. You can stand right where gladiators and athletes once stood in the stadium and take your time to explore it all. Check out the museum afterwards for the statues that were moved inside.

October 2021. Excellent Greco-Roman ruins site with a great museum. Nice choice by our guide - off the beaten tour bus route. Morning visit we had entire site to ourselves. Excellent adventure with much historical stuff. Worth the visit. Museum had spectacular marble sculpture exhibition.

Before visiting turkey, I struggled to find information about visiting Aphrodisias without self-driving. Most information was about renting a car and driving to Aphrodisias. I visited Aphrodisias using public transport (only shuttle buses and not using any train) and I am sharing my experience here.

Aphrodisias, is about 100Kms away from Denizli and is much closer to Nazilli - about 50Kms.

I started from Denizli, took Nazilli shuttle at about 7:15am to Kuyucak (sounds as "KuyuJak"). I was dropped at the T-junction. From Here, I took a shuttle to Karacasu ("KaraJasu") From karacasu, I took a shuttle that directly drops you off at Aphrodisias. I was at Aphrodisias at about 10:15am. The shuttle drivers are very helpful and they guide and help you in case you are confused. It was very easy for me and I really enjoyed the trip.

Here are the details:

Denizli to Kuyucak: about 66Kms, takes about 1 hour and costs 10TL
Kuyucak to Karacasu : about 25Kms, takes about 30 - 40 minutes and costs 6TL
Karacasu to Aphrodisias: about 15Kms, takes about 10 minutes and costs 4TL

There are regular shuttles from Nazilli to Karacasu. I guess one can reach Karacasu from Nazilli within 1 hour.

Shuttle timings from karacasu to Aphrodisias are not very frequent. The timings during summer are: 8:30am, 10am and then one shuttle every hour. The last shuttle is at 1900hrs.

From Aprodisias to Karacasu, the shuttle timings are: 7:30am, 8:30am... every hours one shuttle and the last shuttle is at 5:30pm.

If you want to do Aphrodisias as a day trip after Pamukkale and heading towards Izmir, Start early from Denizli complete the visit and head to Nazilli. From Nazilli one can easily access Selcuk or Izmir.

In the opposite direction, you can also visit Aphrodisias on your way to Pamukkale. Dropby at Nazilli, visit the site and head to Denizli.

Aphrodisias has got to be one of my favourite sites in Turkey so far.

We decided to escape from the quite horrendous Kusadasi, where we were staying, and take a two night trip by car across to Pamukkale. Having perused the Rough Guide, we reckoned Aphrodisias would be worth a look on the return journey and we were right.

We arrived mid-morning and ended up spending all day there. The ruins are superb and the site was fairly quiet as it isn't on the main tourist trail.

As with every Roman site, there are the theatre ruins, this time in very good nick with bits of the stage still intact. Also great ruins of the Temple of Aphrodite, Baths, Agora and the partially excavated remains of a pool which would have taken up a huge amount of room in the city. The stadium is also brilliant and very complete and the intricate Tetrapylon rivals anything you will see at Ephesus.

I have visited a lot of archaeological sites in Turkey now and this was the best for ruins and the experience - much better than Ephesus and well worth a visit.
