The Eglise Saint-Martin in Chapaize is one of the oldest Roman churches in Burgundy, with building beginning about 1021-1023. One of its most unique features is its 35 meter high bell tower. We fell in love with its solidity and its simplicity.

This church and its charming village are part of what seduced me to leave Paris and move to this area permanently. A perfect example of the pared down Romanesque style, in an idyllic setting. The whole village of Chapaize was very picturesque, but it is the church in its center that is a true gem, particularly the outside. I really liked the doors, I had never seen any like that before, and the rose bushes growing along the road in front are an especially nice touch. The inside was a lot plainer than we... More
