Home of the Marquess of Anglesey, with spectacular views of Snowdonia.Set on the shores of the Menai Strait amidst breathtakingly beautiful scenery, this elegant house was redesigned by James Wyatt in the 18th century. The 1930s restyled interior is famous for its Rex Whistler association, containing his largest painting and exhibition.A military museum contains relics from the 1st Marquess of Anglesey's tenure, who commanded the cavalry at the Battle of Waterloo. There's a fine spring garden and Australasian arboretum, with an understorey of shrubs and wild flowers, a summer terrace, and massed hydrangeas which give autumn colour.A woodland walk gives access to a marine path beside the Menai Strait.

We visited Plas Newydd Country House on 9th May and found this National Trust property to keep up the tradition of NT Houses by being clean and well looked after with informative staff. The grounds and house are in a lovely position over looking the Menai Straits and in site of the Menai Bridge. Lovely place to visit.

This stately home be!ongoing to the national trust is on the banks of the menai straits on the Anglesey side and very easy to get to. The gardens are great and very interesting but the jewel in the crown is the painted mural covering the whole wall and onto two other walls in a ground floor room. It is worth... More

The building itself is not the most pleasing to the eye but the setting certainly makes up for that. The views along the Menai Straits are wonderful. The house is a treasure trove of military history, especially the Battle of Waterloo. The full length wall painting by Max Whistler is awe inspiring, so many quirks and "tongue in cheek" references... More

Found the house interesting and the gardens well kept, however the tea room lets this property down, limited menu, long queues, staff rushed off their feet, tables not cleared, I have no objection to clearing my own table but their was no tray racks to do so, do wish it was encouraged more.

Love the grounds that is very well keep and the house, if that what you call it, was very interesting knowing how the families live in such a very large home. It has been in the same family over 400 years. It is a must place to visit. See lots of people with dogs walking around the grounds and I... More

My wife and I spent the morning visiting this National Trust house and although we have been several times before still found plenty of things of interest. The rhododendron gardens were particularly beautiful. We did have a light lunch here but that unfortunately was not up to NT standards-----the baked potato was only luke warm !

Superb informal grounds with loads of space for walks, picnics etc with great views. House is interesting with the Rex Whistler mural in the dining room amazing. Excellent description by the guide in the room On the negative side the tea room is poor. At lunch there are three hot dishes on the menu but only one was available and... More

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this house. The gardens and woodlands etc. are great (I even saw a red squirrel!) The Rex Whistler painting in the 'dining room' alone is worth the visit - if there is a member of staff to hand, make sure to ask them to talk you through it, fascinating stuff!

What a lovely place especially if you have a dog, lots of outdoor space for them to discover. The house was very interesting and overlooking the menai straits. As national trust members well worth a visit
