Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's difficult to rate a museum trying to represent such a tragic and important event in the history of Europe and WWI, a battle even standing itself for the horrors of war...
But this is actually already a point where the Museum doesn't stand to the actual events it is representing. It seems too small and was too crowded for the individual visitor to be able to fully immerge in the information provided by the exhibition.
The tour has no clear guideline considering themes and chronological order. Yes, there is a recommended visiting direction but it simply doesn't work very well as you always will have to cross other visiting groups, look for the next mark where to stop, will be distracted by sound-effects happening on other stops across the room and so on. It's simply too chaotic.
As said, the museum seems too small for what it is trying to show you. And having visited the Verdun Memorial as a child some 20 years ago a couple of times before it has been rebuilt or reorganized and having been really impressed back then, I couldn't ignore where the museum now seems like trying to fit in provisionally all its information and exhibits.
Verdun truly deserves a better museum than this.

Arrived 45 minutes before closing and they would not let us in (even though we were willing to pay full price and leave at closing time). I bought a souvenir book on the way out and we grabbed a map. We managed to see quite a lot outside of the museum, but this was a disappointment as we literally planned our route around this site (but my husband's flight was late). Life is life. Verdun was still amazing, even without this museum.

This museum, set in the battle fields of Verdun, gives a good overview of warfare during World War 1. A lot of aspects of that period is covered.
It lacks a timeline of the battle, so you could follow the progress of the battle with the German advances and the French recoveries of lost ground. Now it lacks historical context regarding the Battle of Verdun.
The souvenir shop has interesting items, the coffee shop is basic.

An immersive visit to the heart of the First World War, and more precisely the 1916 battle at Verdun: everything is presented, military touchstones, human resources, logistics, small everyday details, clothing, food, mail , animals... but also medicine, death, burials...
The visit is powerful, moving, a real life-size history lesson to be continued outside by crossing the destroyed village of Fleury, and pushing on to the ossuary and the forts.
An absolutely essential stopover for everyone, adults, young people, children, French and foreigners.
I absolutely recommend!

You probably need at least a day to fully absorb this wonderful exhibition of a truly awful time in history.
My one criticism is that the descriptive panels adjacent to each displayed are often too small, poorly placed and badly lit.
If you want to know about Verdun you have to visit here.

Being from Meuse, I have visited the memorial several times since its creation.
the current version is disappointing and dangerous, given the many dark, poorly lit spaces, don't tell me that it's to recall the 1916 environment, and blah blah...a lady of a certain age fell into a stair.
we no longer see the planes enough. Shame.
and it's expensive up front.
very average welcome."do you follow the arrows and basta, postal code?"
the previous version was much more realistic.
don't forget dear designers...that visitors can be of a certain age and don't care about the hyper technology developed in the memorial.
so I won't set foot there again anytime soon.
disappointed

Very beautiful museum but which makes sense with a guided tour (there were a lot of us on May 9)
Bravo to the guide who gave voice and a lot of very lively and interesting information.
Note non-potable water in the toilets
Parking seems to be a little small for a lot of people.

We combined the memorial with the visit to Fort Douaumont (combined ticket), and the Falouse work, and are delighted. The memorial is great for all ages, everything is told through soundtracks, archive videos and images, period objects, and even very impressive virtual reality. Many themes covered (weapons, clothing, mail, food, transport, medical, etc.). Three fantastic and very affordable visits (unlike the underground citadel of Verdun which seemed to us to be a tourist trap - we do not thank the Tourist Office for this recommendation).

Allow at least two hours to visit this amazing museum. The whole battle of Verdun is explained with very interesting and cleverly laid out displays, film shows and artefacts. Possibly one of the best museums about WW1 I have visited.

I would check directly with museum or ask your hotel to do so. As it is a holiday weekend.

Planning a trip to France with wife & 6 yo son. I'm interested in WW-I and would like to teach my son about this too. Kids like moving things or neat stuff. 2 years ago I really enjoyed the "tunnel WW-I museum" at the Somme. Is this as good?
Written 2 August 2016
I haven't been to the tunnel museum, but there are lots of interactive displays at the Verdun Memorial and loads of school children visiting it. I think he'd like it.
