The Cafe at Rufford Abbey.
Oct 2021 • Friends
We really like to visit Rufford but we were very disappointed with the Cafe. The 3 Lattes were only lukewarm and mine was quite weak so we took them back. All they did was top them up with hot water making them even weaker.
The cafe use to offer a much better menu and I could usually purchase Gluten free food and the staff use be so friendly and helpful. Now it seems be sausage rolls or pasties.

Family walk

Had a lovely time at Rufford ACP- we came armed with our own picnic and loved walking round the grounds - we were very impressed how well they are maintained-and the children’s playground is smashing - our 3yo grandson had the greatest time on most of the activities- just a bit disappointed that the boats on the lake were only available at the weekend but other than that it’s a lovely space to wander around- lots of seating available too just to sit and enjoy the view.

History? what history!
Came here expecting at the very least to be able to purchase a guide book to envelop me with all the gorey details of the abbeys inhabitants and their place in its history,no information in the gift shop whatsoever, might aswell have not bothered,to walk around a place of interest not knowing why its there, who built it,who owned it,who lived there who was connected to who is a worthless endeavour, Nottingham city council shame on you, don't get me wrong, rufford abbey doesn't need a £30 million upgrade to turn it into an art gallery and call it a"castle" when its not, just a really informative guide book on sale in the gift shop is all you need do.

Don’t bother

Unexpected Disappointment.
We were very much looking forward to coming here. Upon arrival the lad at the entry was polite and friendly, we parked up and walked in. Turns out, there’s nothing even here! A lovely old ruin, that sadly can’t be entered and is fenced off so you can’t even get close. Everywhere you go there are screaming kids and dogs off leads, can’t escape it. The coach house food place was busy, and the entire experience there was like being back in school again getting school dinners. Most of the stuff they’d run out of, staff seemed stressed and the food was either stale or soggy. No personal touch or cute experience you’d expect at a place like this.
My advice as someone who came to learn about history and see old stuff, don’t bother with this place. It’s a shame but save your money. Only come here if you have young kids and dogs that can be let loose.

Excellent park for children with boats on the lake, playground and mini-golf as well as gardens and woodland trails to explore. Very enjoyable visit for us and good pizza too.

Great value for money for the whole family young and old.
Aug 2021
This place is such good value for money, £4 to park for the whole day and a family pass for the additional activities is £30 for four people of £8 per person, which you can chose to do or not because there is still plenty to do for the whole family for free. You can walk around the grounds and picnic or chose to eat at the fantastic various eateries. Plenty of grassed areas for the children to run around as well as the big adventure playground. Also the gardens and interesting facts you find out on the information stations dotted around the estate. The activities pass allows you do go boating, play crazy golf and do archery. Plan to stay for a full day because you will need it. It is also wheelchair and pushchair/pram friendly around the whole estate.

Great.
Aug 2021 • Family
This place is just great. Costs £4 to park for the whole day and you can literally spend the whole day there.

The weather was awful the day we went but that didn’t stop us spending 6 hours here.

We started at the children’s playground which has been redone since our last visit four years ago. Our daughter absolutely love it, especially the zip wires. Then we went and some rounds of crazy golf. This is an extra cost at £5pp or £10 for 4 people. If there’s more then 1 of you playing, don’t knock all your balls into the last hole and go around again ;)

We then headed for one of the eateries on site and throughly enjoyed a good sized meal, we even managed to get a space inside to take a break from the rain.

After this we went on a walk around the lake. When you get to the opposite side of the lake there is an opportunity to take a pedal boat or row boat on the lake. This cost £10 for 30 minutes. We didn’t let the rain stop us and the great thing was we were the only people in the lake. We started to head back to get out and we asked how long we had left and the men said we could have as long as we wanted because no one else wanted to row on the lake in the rain lol.

We then stopped for an ice cream and just round the corner is a great view point where the water from the lake drains over the road. Some cars will cautiously go through the water that is only 15cm deep in average, but drivers who are familiar with this will go through and will create a huge splash. This is very entertaining to watch.

After this we took the walk back through the woods and past some animal graves of the family that lived on this site and then headed back to the playground for more fun before we left.

The abbey ruin was closed for us on this visit but it wasn’t the main reason for our visit on this occasion.

Great value outside space for a walk, picnic and play. Eat parking with clean and efficient facilities. A walk around the lake is a must.
