Well worth a visit if you like your tropical wetlands and birdlife. There are a couple of good walking trails here, departing from just east of the dam: one through the rainforest and the other skirting the dam itself, primarily a boardwalk.
Great diversity of flora as well as a multitude of birdlife.
You can drive across the dam to a picnic area with lake birdlife viewing points. Lots and lots of birdlife to be seen, An awesome spot.

We came here to wait for a jumping croc tour and we are so glad we did visit this area. There are 3 mains walks which are displayed on the information board, all of them were great. Currently the main dam wall is closed for walking due to crocs (but you can still drive and quickly get out!) The walks are very easy and flat, great for all and shaded in most areas. You will see stunning birdlife and lilies in this region, it’s amazing.

My husband and I have a bit of a saying in our explorations and that is every now and again we find a gem and this is exactly how I would describe this reserve. We have visited many wetlands in our travels and many looked like they hadn't see water for the past 400 years and all wildlife have since moved on. This is not the case here though, we were both excited about this find with all the beautiful billabongs and lakes and so many birds, thousands i would say with a mixture of ducks, water birds and predators. Perfectly amazing.

THE place to go for the Rainbow Pitta. The Reserve is packed with waterbirds - what an amazing place to visit, specially early morning or late afternoon.
Bring repellent through as the mozzies are out in full force.

Did the Short drive out to fill in a morning from Howard Springs, we did the slow drive along the road or Break wall, lots of birds on both sides, the water was starting to get lower but birds everywhere. Didn’t see any larger animals looks like no crocs in the area at this time, did the 2k walk along the board walks and walking tracks, all ok but you see the best parts from the dam wall road part. Maybe wear long sleeves and pants to avoid the mossy and insect attacks, I did read the reviews and forgot mossy spray. A nice drive and c into the humpty doo pub on the way back

We have visited here before and were hoping with all the rain they have had there might have been a bit more to see. This wetlands in its simplicity is a magnificent area to visit. We saw lots of birdlife here and I am sure if you had time to wait you would see a lot more than we did.

Stopped on the way back from Kakadu. Drove out over dam wall to the viewing platform. Plenty of bird to see and awesome wetlands. Then drove back across and stopped and seen the other platforms. If you like photos stop and have a look.

The place is Heaven on earth for nature lovers. Make sure you get there for sunrise its something you will never forget.
We arrived at Fogg Dam at about 5-6am just as the sun was coming up , the sounds of birds is electrifying The fog over the marshes is unbelievable. You will see that many birds its crazy.
There is a double story viewing platform at the end of the Fogg dam wall where you can sit and take photos.
During the wet season the dam wall overflows and spills into the marshlands its quite a sight.
There are crocodiles in the dam during the wet season so be very cautious when visiting.
There are also a couple of great boardwalks you can walk out on each one is about a 45 min - 1hr walk.
Make sure you take the bushmans insect repellent because there are a lot of mosquitos at certain times of the year.
We even saw Jabirus on the road into Fogg Dam and Water Buffalo too. its a great place for sure.

I recommend visiting the Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve. It is close to the main road. (paved) There is a short, cooling walk- Lily Pad - starting at the parking lot. Beautiful forest and great viewing platforms to see the lilies, birds.

Fog Dam is a wonderful insight into eco system of the wetlands. It is only 60 mins from Darwin and it is a place, I love visiting in the wet season as it is abundant with birds and wildlife. I really enjoy The Forest to Water Lilly walk - it is amazingly peaceful to walk through the stands of paperbarks and hear the sounds of the forest. From the viewing platforms you are mesmerised by the vastness of the wetlands and all the wildlife which is attracted to this special habitat. Note: the Dam walk is not permitted due to crocs. If you are in Darwin, I recommend you pop out and enjoy the walks in this area.

Where is the nearest accommodation to Fogg Dam? Don't mind if I camp or a motel. Just want to be near and wondering what the choices were. Thanks.

Hi there
What kinds of flora can we expect in dry season ( July) will the water lilies have gone by then ?
Written 4 June 2016
If you are looking for water lilly flowers. Most have finished by July. However as we are stiil getting rain some lillies are still in flower now.and there may still be some still in flower in July. Fogg dam or corroboree billabong would be your best bet.
