The two fortresses of Roquetaillade are a masterpiece in Aquitaine, South West France and the site is one of the most popular in the region (30 minutes from Bordeaux, in the borders of the Graves and Sauternes region). The castle has been lived in by the same family for over 700 years and is fully furnished. It was opened officially to the public in 1956. Behind the medieval walls, visitors will discover splendid and unique decorations created by Viollet le Duc, XIX century architect (Notre Dame, Carcassonne, Pierrefonds). The best way to view this chateau is from the car park, a walk away from the building itself and this is quite free. It's clearly a medieval castle with keep, towers, moat and even a small drawbridge. Of course, it has been heavily restored...More

I visited in November with my partner, even with a slight bit of rain we enjoyed it hugely! The castle is located in the heart of the Bordeaux wine country within a typical setting of Aquitaine countryside. Often when you visit castles they are in...More

Beautifully restored castle. Same family owns the chateau for past 700 years. The family shares the castle for tours with the public. We were happy to have been able to be there.

I visited this attraction in October 2016 as an excursion from the Scenic Diamond river cruise (as have other reviewers). I've never seen such a well-restored castle! The history really comes alive when you can walk through the rooms and feel as though the 13th...More

We picked this excursion from a river cruise on the Scenic Diamond, and the drive was well worth it! The family chapel is as gorgeous in its own way as Saint-Chapelle in Paris! Instead of walls of colored glass, here the jeweled effect is from...More
