Ghalyas Museum of Modern Art It invites visitors to explore Oman’s past, present and future aura, being welcomed not by one person, or several people, but by a whole culture. The display of modern works, in conjunction with the historic life of the 50s and 70s is intended to create a feeling that the “inner” Omani continues forever unchanging. With a permanent collection of heritage, culture, tradition and art, Ghalya's Museum of Modern Art serves as a museum and a showcase.

Charming, not too much reading, takes about 30-45 minutes. About 5 minutes walk from the souk - walking along the corniche heading towards Old Muscat.

This delightful little museum provides the visitor with a look into what life was like in Muscat just prior to embracing modernity. It is a recreation of life typical in a Muscat home in the 1950s to the mid-70s. Each small room contains a wealth of Omani artifacts that present the visitor with a superb idea of Omani life in... We stumbled across whilst waiting for souk to open. Head up the corniche & it's tucked around a bend at the end. Snapshot insight into Oman life 2 riyals each for us adults..worth it. You weave through four of five rooms..the kids liked as it's a bit like a treasure hunt. Then we spent about 15 mins in the smaller... More

How very colourful the Omanis are, in their dress and home furnishings. Also kitchen utilities used in the home. Interesting to see what a typical home may look like and what is used for daily living.

We went here to escape the heat and found that the Modern Art museum is at the end with the first part being the People's museum giving an insight into the houses and lifestyles of the Omani in the past. This was fascinating and there was a variety of artifacts on show. It was VERY reasonable too.

This quaint little museum was the cultural highlight during my trip. The exhibition was curated beautifully. I thoroughly enjoyed wondering around and examining each peace in the lovely, quiet setting. Well worth a visit!

The museum has several small rooms and a small court yard in the corner of the court yard large dish filled with clothes as if ready for washing. in the different rooms you will find different aspects of the daily life of the people who would have lived in a house like this. Amusing and faciating at the same time.

I almost missed this wonderful experience - the entrance isn't obvious yet its understated exterior belies the truly amazing deliciousness of the interior. This isn't a museum, it is an experience that will live with the visitor more powerfully than any of the other, duller attractions of capital cities. If you ever asked yourself what exactly is meant by culture... More
