We cruised Burgundy on the Apres Tout in 2023 and learned they would be in Alsace in the spring of 2024. When a cancellation opened a slot, I grabbed it. And boy was I glad I did! Rory and Caroline have created a small but carefully thought out and supremely comfortable world for their guests, complete with Caroline’s superb food and great wine. Jean Luc brings an amazing knowledge of the region, the wines, and more and is an impeccable guide and sommelier. The new hostess, Emilia, is absolutely delightful. I cannot imagine a better team or experience. Arriving at the Apres Tout feels like going home to see dear friends. We have already booked our third cruise to return to Burgundy. Highly recommended!

I am not much of a review writer, but I couldn't go any longer without writing a review for our Apres Tout barge trip. We took two of our grown sons with us and met a third couple who were on the barge for a second time. The six of us had a blast together. We saw some beautiful scenery, ate delicious food cooked by Caroline and enjoyed many great stories and laughs with Captain Rory. Jean Luc made the trip interesting with our tours and exploration of the Alsace region as well as his knowledge of wine, and Emilia was a kindhearted hostess with a great sense of humor and knowledge of cheese from the region. All in all, we laughed, we learned, and we made good friends. Cannot wait to go again. Highly recommended! Thank you Caroline and Rory so much for a fantastic trip and wonderful memories!

A life-enhancing experience. Seven days and six nights of bliss. The food is exquisite EVERY meal. The wine is the best. The service is definitely pampering. The excursions are fascinating and different. What makes it all better than this review can express is that the owners and crew are a BLAST! They are fun, not just expert and entertaining. You end the week with five new friends.

This was my 3rd trip on the Apres Tout. Rory, Caroline, Jeanluc and Amylia really make you feel like family from the moment you are greeted by Jeanluc to the last moment you wave goodbye on the last day. Everyday is filled with amazing food, wine, laughter and adventure. All the crew work so hard to ensure each guest is taken care of and enjoying everything the Apres Tout has to offer. Caroline is very easy to converse with before, during and after the trip. She always makes sure you have everything you could possibly need while on board. We toured the Alsace region this trip. I have done Burgundy, Loire, and now Alsace. I have to say that all the trips are amazing, but the Alsace area is by far my favorite. It offers so much history, beauty, and new wines not known to most outside the region. Burgundy is so well know for its history and wines, but I would recommend Alsace over Burgundy if you have not experienced Alsace. Jeanluc will pour you amazing wines from Burgundy while showing you all that the Alsace has to offer. We tried new wines I have never tasted and they were amazing. I would recommend this area for its great wine, amazing history and beautiful countryside. Jeanluc will show you amazing things and educate you all trip. He will also pour wines that will complement Caroline’s food to make you feel like you are in a 5 Star Michelin restaurant floating in the beautiful countryside of France. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this family of great people. All the crew work tirelessly, but keep smiling and laughing all the time. Attention to details starts with the pickup at your hotel, the immaculate condition of the Apres Tout, the beautiful cabins, seating area, kitchen, library, the beautiful teak deck, and the dinning area on deck. Meals on the deck are so beautiful and peaceful. Rory and Caroline love that boat and what they do. It shows in the amazing condition of the entire boat and the service and crew they provide. I very much appreciated how they helped us celebrate 2 birthday in very special ways.

Hotel Barging at the very highest level of luxury
Just returned from the Alsace tour aboard Apres tout. It was my first experience luxury hotel barge cruising. Accommodations were upscale matching 5-star hotels. The food was fabulous served in a classic French style but in a relaxed atmosphere.
The Apres Tout accommodates six guests in three en suite state rooms, with a crew of 5. Each member of the crew has a specialty and is passionate about it. One of my interests was the canal system, Caption Rory, and Mehai were always available to answer questions. It even included some time in the pilothouse will navigating some tight locks. They even volunteered to accompany me on a bicycle ride along the canal after dinner.
The daily side trips lead by Jean-Luc were very interesting about the region’s history, He doubled as our driver in the Mercedes van, as well as our wine sommelier, explaining the wines served at dinner.
Caroline of “Chef Supreme” continued to impress us each meal. Monica our “Cheese Lady “provided the finishing touches introducing us to the local cheeses. Desserts a work of art for the both eyes and mouth.
What ever your interests they were able to accommodate even thru these COVID times.
If you want a relaxing luxury experience fly the Concorde. If you want to travel by train ride the Orient Express. If you plan a canal cruise book the Apres Tout.
Date of experience: October 2021
Trip type: Traveled as a single senior.

These cruises are truly extraordinary! This is my second cruise and I have honestly fallen in love with the Alsace region of France! The other cruises are lovely and should certainly be experienced but to those in our party who have experienced all three, the Alsace region must be experienced to be believed! Of course the constants of the Apres Tout are found in the personal service (once before they helped with a friend’s memorial, and this cruise they prepared a special celebration for one of our group). Rory, Caroline, Jean Luc, and Amelia inevitability become part of your group because they are warm, caring, fun, and genuinely happy people. Jean Luc is a man of tremendous information and he guides you through a journey of wine and local culture with knowledge and wit! Amelia is sweet and keeps your cabins in tip shop shape, serves you with a smile, and is truly creative in her own right. Caroline’s cooking is beyond anything you can imagine, and Rory is an expert skipper who bring joy to every day! Please consider any and all cruises on the Apres Tout but please DO NOT miss the Alsace!

What a wonderful week we have just experienced with Rory and Caroline and their three amazing staff, Boyjan, Luka and Jean Luc, (apologies for probable incorrect spelling). The week that was planned for us (6people) was everything that we wanted, educational and fun with some spectacular visits throughout the week. We know so much more about wine and how it’s grown and graded than we ever thought possible.
Caroline served us some truly memorable meals throughout the week whilst also catering to everyone’s likes and dislikes. I recommend her cook book to bring home, not that I could replicate her high standard but more for the great ideas.
The accommodation was such luxury and very well thought out and kept immaculate throughout our stay. No-one could have done more for us with a very special mention to the amazing gentleman known as Jean Luc who had to sit in A&E with me all afternoon following an incident which involved me dislocating my little finger!
Finally I have to mention Rory, what a fun packed powerhouse whose skill with piloting the Apres Tout was very impressive as was his sharing of his whiskey bottles…..
Wonderful week and I would have no hesitation to recommend

This was our second cruise on the Apres Tout; our first was to Burgundy a few years back and was truly a trip of a lifetime but those words were inadequate. We were ready to return immediately at the end of that trip but also had some concerns that a second time might not be able to reach the level of the first. We were wrong. We did the Alsace cruise this time which was robust, relaxing, reviving, joyous, delicious, educational, soul filling wrapped by Caroline and Rory and their extraordinary crew Jean Luc and Emiliya. There are other hotel barges that I'm sure are very good and quite lovely, but the Apres Tout experience is uniquely different because of the hearts and business model of the Macrae's. They love what they do, sincerely strive to insure each person on the cruise is completely happy and cared for, and warmly welcome you into their family while in their house. The crew exactly mirrors and amplifies that model to complete the experience.
How can one have two trips of a lifetime? I don't have the answer but Caroline and Rory do and they leave us wanting to do a third. That would be bliss.

You won't be disappointed! This was a wonderful and fabulous way to experience the best of what France has to offer while being spoiled with luxury accommodations.
The barge is meticulously maintained, you'll love the custom canopy on the deck to give you shade while enjoying your meals and the views while cruising, but there is plenty of room for all six guests to lounge on the other part of the deck to enjoy the sun if you would like.
The staterooms are well attended to by your Hostess who makes sure that your accommodations are exceptional. The Hostess will also describe and serve your meals and is knowledgeable in all things CHEESE!
Breakfast was served with fresh fruit, bread and pastries every morning. Lunches were delicious salads with cheese and served with wine. Dinners were truly magnificent and sights to behold; diet preferences and restrictions can be tailored to accommodate even the pickiest/finicky of groups. I particularly liked the cheese course served between the main dish and dessert in that it offered the opportunity to be introduced to three different cheeses every night; I found that all goat cheeses are not inherently bad, but there are actually some that are quite good.
The dinners were paired with great quality wines, and we were given a Master Class by the resident Sommelier, Jean-Luc, who is knowledgeable beyond belief. He serves as your guide and chauffeur touring the sites of France; he definitely knows his wine and history. He is most accommodating in all his interactions and really a joy.
Rory and Caroline truly enjoy what they are doing and are passionate about their guests having the best time of their lives and it shows. They are enthusiastic and treat everyone like family. You will not want to leave the barge when your week is complete, but you will have experienced the trip of a lifetime and it will bring a smile and joy to you whenever you think back on your time aboard the Apres Tout.

We've just finished 2021 summer season on board of Apres Tout as matelot/captain in training (Mihai) and hostess/cheese expert(Monica) and we can easily say that it was one of the best summers ever.
Apres Tout is by far the most stylish barge that we've seen in France, designed and build to spoil all the people on board, guests and crew. With 6 guest capacity and 5 crew the service can be easily rated as +5 stars.
Rory's natural skills on handling a 270 tons barge looks like a waltz with a whale, a real show to watch. His humor and all those stories makes him addictive.
Caroline's energy and good vibes, her permanent big smile and that rare special talent on cooking absolutly delicious meals will make anybody to feel in Heaven.
Their generosity is out of this planet, for guests and crew in the same measure and we are sure their mission in this life is to make everybody happy around them.
Jean Luc is an encyclopedia on french history and wines, and his dancing skills are worthy of a talent show.
Apres Tout, Rory, Caroline...we can't thank you enough for all what you do. Please never change...you are simply THE BEST!!!
