It's difficult to know where to begin, as the whole experience beginning to end was such a pleasure. That was very much as a result of our wonderful guide/owner Paco, who took us first to the slopes where their vines grow (spectacular views btw). This part of the visit really helps you to understand the complexities involved in producing Priorat wines. Then to the bodega, which by industrial standards is small, that's because it's not industrial, everything is hand done, from growing to picking to bottling. I can't recommend a visit to this Bodega enough, which is run by passionate hard working individuals, who make you feel right art home. I'll definitely be re-visiting with friends in the future. BTW, I did the tour in Spanish, so I can't vouch for the level of English provided on tours here. Thanks to Paco and the team, Gerry.

We visited a few wine cellars in Porrera and what we enjoyed most was how different each one was.
Visiting Clos Dominic with Paco was a joy. It was clear how much of his life is in this wine cellar, it was clear how much he loves this region and his vines, and it was clear how much he loves the wine he makes from the very vines he showed us.
The visit started with a stroll through the vineyards, which was magical and unique.
Other "wine people" that I spoke to in Porrera turned their nose up a bit at Paco and his visit when I brought it into conversation, but I think that he has by far the most interesting and entertaining visit to a bodega in Porrera.
The tasting at the bodega itself was generous and interesting. We could repeat any wine we wanted and there were quite a few to choose from.
Of all the cellars that I visited, this is one that I would definitely return to - oh, and the wine was excellent too!
But just one thing to mention: this was the only bodega in five that I have visited so far in the region that actually still charged us the 8€/pp for the visit even when we spent 150€ on wine. That's a bit tight, Señora Dominic, don't you think?

The went a group of for and we had the change to see the wine yard with Paco the most famous person in the village. The wine yard form an amphitheatre making an incredible view. Go up to the hill to get the incredible views of the area. After this visit we went for the tasting. We have the wine in the same place where the wine is resting. The wine is excellent. I really recommend to visit this place!

We booked the roughly 2-hour tour and tasting for 8 euros each and drove to the sleepy town of Porrera for the visit on a Tuesday afternoon. It was a little bit difficult to find parking and to find the actual winery, but didn’t take us long. We were met by Dominic and Paco and headed off to the vineyard first. Although my Spanish (and subsequently, Catalan) is poor, Dominic spoke English well enough for us to understand fairly easily, but we always feel bad that people have to cater to English speakers. Spanish lessons, here I come.
The vineyard tour was really neat, as it seemed so serene right after a little bit of morning rainfall. We walked through the cabernet and merlot vines first (20-ish years old), and then to the carignan and grenache (garnatxa in Catalan) vines which were over 100 years old on a fairly steep hillside of slate (licorella). We tried a few of the grapes along the way and also spotted some of the white varietals mixed in with the others, which is how vineyards were planted many years ago. Ask lots of questions and learn about this wonderful wine region.
After the vineyard we headed back and did a quick tour of the small processing room and went down to the small cave beneath the winery for the tasting that included some small bites (Iberian ham, bread, etc.). We tried four wines overall – the first being a nearly full-bodied white with pleasant aromas that would make an excellent food-pairing wine (~15e). The second was a cabernet, grenache, and carignan blend (~22e) and the third was a similar red with merlot rather than cabernet. The final wine was all old-vine grenache and carignan that was balanced, rounded, and had a lengthy finish along with some wonderful fruit and floral aromas (~35e). This was one of the best wines we tasted during our trip, and I regret not purchasing some due to space restrictions (note, shipping from anywhere in Spain back to the US is VERY expensive – 90e at minimum per case, but we typically saw it being over 100e, which is over 8e per bottle more).
Overall this was probably the best value for tour and tasting on our entire trip. It’s not the easiest location to get to, but the vineyard tour is peaceful and informative, and the wines are decently priced for the quality. Wish we could buy these in the US, but unfortunately, they do not export that far.

We loved it and it is worth going - You taste their wine and you go to the fields too. The small village is so cute- Keep some extra time to see it -ONLY thing - Maybe they should not charge you money when you buy wine from them? We had a person on our team buying a lot and he still had to pay the 8 euros:)

16 July 2015.
I visited Clos Dominic with my American parents in law, my wife, and my Danish parents. I called Dominic the same morning and she was able to book us in the same day in the afternoon for an exclusive tour of their vineyard followed by a wine tasting in their cellar. We specifically wanted to visit Clos Dominic as we have tasted one of their exquisite wines once in the US.
Paco picked us up in Porrera and took us out to their 7 hectar vineyard. Paco gave us a very informative and inspiring tour (in Spanish - I then translated for my family) that enabled us to grasp the full scope of this incredible family business, where harvesting is carried out by hand by only 3 people - Paco, Dominic and their daughter!
Dominic took care of the following wine tasting (in English) in their cellar. We tried three variables via Dominic's knowledgeable introduction which gave us a good sense of the flavour range of Clos Dominic's blended red wines based on Grenache, Carinena, Cab Sauvignon and Merlot. I especially enjoyed Dominic's great anecdotes about the creation of Clos Dominic and her and Paco's relationship with winemaking within a small family business.
I can't wait to order some of their top shelf wine - hopefully they will ship to the US soon!
@Estimados Dominic y Paco - muchas gracias de nuevo por esa excelente introducion a su vinedo!
Un cordial saludo,
Klaus Christensen (Denmark/US)

Visit to the vineyards just outside the village, and, of course, tasting of their excellent wines.
Small family buisness, producing really superb quality wines.

Paco is the husband of Dominic and co-owner of Clos Dominic. Dominic is a wonderfully quirky woman. When we made this stop (2 of 3), we didn't go to the room where they press and make the wines first (we did that later), he drove us out to the vineyards and we shared a walk up the hills into the scenery. You stop along the way to taste hazelnuts, almonds and pears that are planted amongst the vines along the way. Paco points out the vines that are over 100 years old and you become overwhelmed with a sense of history on the grounds. By the way, the scenery is spectacular as well. Slate is the makeup of the mountain, so you can see evidence of the vines' roots pushing their way through the terrain to dig in. You learn that they go up to 25 meters deep to get the nutrients they need to survive. Then Paco drives you back into town and you go into the actual winery. You will see that they press and hold the wine in small tanks because it is all done on site, by hand, by the owners. Even the bottling and labeling is done by hand. At last, you will walk down stairs into a cool, warmly lit room and taste the results of a thoughtful and carefully treated process. These are bold red wines, indigenous to the area, and they have learned over many years how to blend the grapes to create a wine drinking experience like no other. These are the smoothest drinking bold wines I've ever had. Complexity is outstanding. Enjoy the bite of the garnacha and the smooth finish of the carinyena. This winery has figured out the recipe from vine to bottle of a tremendous wine drinking experience.
My husband and I visited with a guide (travelpriorat.com) who arranged our tasting and vineyard tour. There are of course fees for the tasting (8 euro/person) but Dominic provided bread, cheese and the olive oil they press as well.

Dominic gave me a tour of the operations and a little history of the family business. Very small production of the local varietal, priorat. The wines are carefully crafted with little technology.
