Fascinating look as some of the excavations that have been done of Roman and more recent ruins. Led by a graduate student or archeologist, but only in Italian. The brochure they hand out is available in English and has good detail.

We missed the tour (the fact that it is only in Italian doesn't bother us), but we had the chance to visit the excavations underneath the cathedral, and they were spectacular. Well presented!

By chance we picked up a brochure for these tours at lunch last Tuesday. Tours are only in Italian (unless you book a group in advance) but there is a detailed handout in English. Each tour will visit 3 of the 32 archaeological sites around...More

This tour was one of the reasons we booked a stay in Alba. Unfortunately, we were never told that there were no English-speaking tours available and we ended up on an Italian-language tour. We were given English handouts so that we could follow along but...More

Nice initiative of a group of young local archeologist that is helping in restoring and preserving a significant portion of Alba's history. Itinerary varies by date (check web site); very interesting view of the Roman as well as the Middleage city. Worth a late afternoon...More

We discovered that a tour wasn't available during our three days in Alba. Be sure to check the days and times and book in advance. So what to do? We were able to tour the Duomo on our own and go down into the underground...More

The ancient Romans populated Alba because it was located along the trade route to northern Europe, and Alba remains an important city today. The underground tour is run by museum staff and concludes with time inside of the very nice city museum. Book the underground...More

Dig anywhere in Italy and you will find Roman ruins. So this little town in Piedmont has made the most of its underground finds. The tour is an hour and in several languages. The young archaelogist probably was limited by his English skills but more...More
