Montecassino Abbey & Anzio War Cemetery day-trip from Rome

Montecassino Abbey, with its fascinating history during World War II and beyond, lies roughly a 1.5-hour drive from Rome. Traveling there by train is possible, but getting up to the abbey without a car can be a hassle. With this tour, let someone else take care of driving to the abbey directly from your hotel in Rome. You’ll save a little time, which you then use to visit the Anzio War Cemetery, a seaside, historic military cemetery.

Anzio - pro and con. Spent 2 weeks with my family in September. Pretty tiny and ancient town. 50 minutes by train to Rome central station- used this opportunity 3 times. Have visited many places around on a rented car-such as Nemi , Castel Gondollo, Sperlonga, Gaeta etc... Nice beaches around the town. I would give a 4+. Will recommend to come here in September- no tourists at all and nice Mediterranean cuisine .

Anizo a beautiful city and a lovely place. But only for Italians. Arrogance in shops, restaurants, hotels, the beach and from all citizens. Here you are not welcome as a tourist. We have been vacationing for 12 years in Italy. This year we chose Anzio. 7 days where we do not feel welcome.

Beautiful place. It was our one day escape from busy Rome and it was brilliant. Its just an hour away on the train from Rome, 10 mins walk from the station and you there. Small town close to Nettuno. Couple of beaches, one public and the other is to pay for. Few restaurants, all Italians. You don’t see tourists there. Clean water, not deep at all. Roman ruins around. Beautiful.

When we were fed up with heat in Rome, we were looking for a day on the beach, we ask local lady in the hotel that we stayed where to go and this was one of the places that she recommended away from the crowd. It's about an hour drive by train and 10 minutes walk. We ended up on Fanciulla D'Anzio beach, the further side is free most locals goes there, we took chair and umbrella for 20 Euros for the whole day. The water is crystal clear. This is nice place to spent hot day away from Rome, beer is cheap 1 euro fro 0.6L Moretty, damn, way cheaper than Rome, food is cheap too on the beach. We did not do much of attraction there, but we saw Villa Imperiale right on this beach.
