Located centrally, and a beautiful Church inside and out. Arezzo, itself, is a must see while in Tuscany.

Remember that San Francesco is very much praised in Tuscany and Umbria. In most cities there are religious worship places named after the saint. In Arezzo, the church dedicated to San Francesco does not only stand out for the beauty of the frescoes of Piero della Francesca but also the modest elegance of the building typical to renaissance architecture (although... The legend of the true cross is depicted in beautiful frescoes. An otherwise austere Franciscan church. Admission was 8 euros.

This church has the Piero della Frencesca frescos of the Myth of the True Cross. Unforgettable. It is worth going to Arezzo just to see them, assuming an interest in art.

This structure looks like the smaller still somewhat unsophisticated brother of the imposing Duomo San Donato. Its rough stone facade contrasts strikingly with its sibling.

Piero Francesco is one of the Giants of art history. His stunning frescoes, or what has survived, are the reason to come to this church. The fact that it was to be a monument to St Francis, but was left with a fenestrated brick exterior because the funds to pay for the marble sheathing could not be procured, is testament... More

The main street of Arezzo is Corso Italia and if one then turns on the left side one will find himself in a small piazza dedeicated to San Francesco. Obviously, the main attraction is the Basilica of San Francesco which has an interesting facade and then one once there can enter in it and take some time to pray.

This part of town, the square and streets around is completely empty in the evening, an d the church is nicely lit. Beautiful art inside, with fresco cycle by Piero della Francesca whose great paintings can be seen in nearby Sansepolcro.
