Legent of the True Cross, a series of 10 fresco, telling the true story of the Cross. Story starts from a tree growed from Adam's skull. Queen Sheba, Solomon, St.Helena, Constantine, Heraclius are all included. The Crucifix was made between 1250-1260, truely historic.

Took a day trip to Arezzo and toured the Church of San Francesco. Very enjoyable, the art there was tremendous and I always have a deep place in my heart for the old churches in Italy. Truly enjoyed seeing the Legend of the True Cross and the other frescos and paintings, I would say the church is good for a... More

Unless you re really into bible stories . If only for art , no. You can't see it close they are high up. Compare with Florence many museums and palaces full of art cost only about 12-14€ . I think here they charge too much .

Storia della vera croce is a must see, if getting in during mass times you don't have to pay the ticket as it should be for free anyway as it used to be!

While there is other art in the church, for us it was about Piero della Francesca's Legend of the True Cross frescos. There are other great pictures of the frescos already on this site. The admission to the church is around the side down the street about 1/8 block. Admission is 8 Euro each. The audio guide is 5 or... More

Highly recommended. These fresco paintings are masterpieces and describe many Bible and Christian scenes. The Church itself is also very beautiful.

The colors are so vibrant, The stories they tell are timeless. The simple glory far surpasses that of St. Mark's in Venice. There will be no crowds so you can take the time that this incredible space deserves.

Located centrally, and a beautiful Church inside and out. Arezzo, itself, is a must see while in Tuscany.

Remember that San Francesco is very much praised in Tuscany and Umbria. In most cities there are religious worship places named after the saint. In Arezzo, the church dedicated to San Francesco does not only stand out for the beauty of the frescoes of Piero della Francesca but also the modest elegance of the building typical to renaissance architecture (although...
