Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is always fascinating to see the interiors of S. Emidio, patron saint of Ascoli, protector of earthquakes, he was the first bishop of the city (it is said that he was beheaded and took his head to be buried in the hypogeum in the temple of S. Emidio alle caves ). The remains of the Saint are now in the crypt which I find astonishing both in the mosaics and in the frescoes. In the interiors I like to visually retrace Carlo Crivelli's polyptych

Also known as Ascoli Cathedral dating back to 1500, it is a stop not to be missed if you visit the city. The large crypt with vaults full of frescoes is very beautiful. Near the entrance there is the arm - reliquary of Sant'Emidio which at the base houses a bone fragment of the saint

This important Cathedral of Ascoli is located in the medieval Piazza Arringo and is dedicated to S. Emidio, first bishop of Ascoli, patron saint of the city and protector from earthquakes.
Accused of having preached the Christian religion, he was beheaded in 303 AD.
The frescoes inside are attributed to the painter Cesare Mariani. The remains of S. Emidio are in the crypt which is a place to absolutely visit.

...so much beauty!
You will be fascinated by the mystical atmosphere that accompanies you throughout the visit!
But the must-see gem is the Crypt.
Built in the eleventh century, this beautiful crypt is dedicated to Sant’Emidio, patron saint of the city.
Mosaics, frescoes and a thousand details 💕

Opens early - 8 am.
Nothing to dislike about the cathedral; the Baptistry, in a separate building, was not open.

The Cattedrale di S. Emidio is the backdrop for Piazza Arringo. This travertine structure with bell tower is named for the patron saint of Ascoli Piceno, S. Emidio, their first bishop who was martyred in the 3rd century by the Romans.

This is a great starting point for any visit to Ascoli Piceno.

At the Baptistery next to the Duomo you can reserve a guided tour.

The guide was very good and patient and really liked his job and sharing his knowledge.
And told us so many interesting things about the churches in Ascoli Piceno.
We adults learned a lot.
Our children liked his tale, which they too could appreciate.

If you visit Ascoli Piceno, using this guided tour service is a good idea and will get you into the old part of the city.

Upon our request, he also advised us to the restaurant "Il Teatro" in the centre, when we asked for the place that the "locals" would go to. Excellent advice: see my review of this place too.

The dome is of typical Ascoli architecture and apart from the main area it has a chapel with representative paintings and an underground crypt with an altar surrounded by mosaics depicting world war II Ascoli

I have visited this church and it's fabulous crypt a number of times over the last fifty years and noticed the slow but consistent restoration work going on. On this visit we were treated to an invitation to join in prayer with Templars in the crypt.
