Oh my. We stopped here, unplanned, based on a cursory knowledge of WWII and the bombing of the abbey, and then spent 2.5 hours touring the monastery, the incredible basilica which we rank with St. Peters, the museum, and also the Polish Army cemetary. Prepare your jaw to drop. And they did this on top of a mountain. And they did this after the abbey was bombed into rubble. We have been in Italy for three weeks now and this is indeed a highlight. Just....go.

This is a special and impressive place, a high compliment to Italy for restoring it so well after the devastation of WW2. The museum, though, should be expanded to more properly commemorate the great number of soldiers whose lives were given at this vitally strategic place, a battle ground that was pivotal to liberating Italy from the Nazis. The short explanatory video should be both improved and available in at least the several languages of the nations whose war dead lie, at eternal rest, nearby and whose descendants come here to remember them. Lest we forget.

Oh what a drive up dizzying heights to experience this 1964 built abbey in the aftermath of destruction of the WWII battle. The building complex is enormous and the basilica ornate and inspirational. Houses the tombs of both St. Benedict and his twin sister St. Scholastica (mid-6th century). Wished we had time to visit the Polish cemetery, visible from the Abbey grounds. Pay toilets at gate. Well stocked gift store. St. Benedict, like St. Francis is a major figure in Italy, and this abbey experience was worth a much longer visit than our itinerary allowed. We would like to return!

As part of a WWII tour of Cassino, the Abbey was our last stop. This is is very impressive place with a lot of history. It has a magnificent view of the valley that will take your breath away. Great place to visit!

We had a historian who took us around WW2 historical areas and then finished up at the monastery. Her knowledge was phenomenal. Beautiful building. Views of surrounding areas is stunning.

This is one of the must-to-see places in Italy. It is rich in culture, history, religious experience and simply as a tourist attraction. To fully appreciate the place, not to miss important information and access hidden gems ask for a guided tour. They have guides speaking various languages including Polish - thank you Anna for your very educational and exciting tour around the place.

We visited on a chilly, cloudy, misty day. Even with such limitations, the Abbey is moving. The guide book (3 euro) is a must. We spend 1 1/2 hour examining the church and cloisters. The art is powerful. We recommend this site to anyone coming to the area.

A spectacular mountaintop location to view the exquisitely rebuilt abbey from which the Benedictine monastic order sprang. Destroyed by savage bombing and shelling during World War II, the Abbey has been rebuilt but with the battle damage showing in many places -- a reconstruction not a erasure of history.

I can't express the pure beauty. The restoration is perfect, we visited in August 2019, the clear blue skies set alight this amazing Abbey.
Free entry, small car park charge. Great drive up to the Abbey as well with some fantastic scenery.
10/10 Belissima.

Incredible views from the Abbey 517m above the valley below. Cool cloisters brimming with history both ancient and modern. Interesting museum (€5 entry pp): though I left with an overwhelming sense of guilt at just being alive. Catholicism’s hold on the soul gets to you. Not one cheerful, joyous message amongst the pictorial art. Comfort galore in the extraordinary achievements of centuries of craftsmen & women & artisans whose work is on display. Usual shop selling overpriced souvenirs. Clean toilets; ample parking and fab walks full of WWII history all around the abbey. Don’t come for a laugh though. The history of human suffering & misery is overwhelming at times. Oh, and did I mention the views?
