Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Part of the Abbey tour experience and not to be missed, this cemetary is built on the grounds of the final assault on the abbey by the Polish Army, who drew the duty to take it.

I first visited Cassino and the monastery of Montecassino in September 2016. I returned in September 2018. The monastery, destroyed beyond recognition in WWII was completely rebuilt after the war. It was so greatly venerated by the Roman Catholic Church, being , that no expense was spared. The result of the reconstruction is the monastery restored to its former glory. In 2016 i drove to the summit car park and looked out across southern Italy. There was a temperature inversion so that the land below was covered in cloud and only the highest peaks were visible. The monastery appeared to float on a sea of cloud. Descending the mountain I was struck by the view of the magnificent Polish War Cemetery. I paid it a visit.

This cemetery emphasizes the Polish made, along with many other countries, at Monte Cassino. This was the worst battle of WWII.

There are over 1000 graves of Polish soldiers. They lost their lives believing Poland would be a free country. Unfortunatelly they did not know about decisions taken in Yalta. Visit and pray. This is what we can do for them

A visit to Montecassino is incomplete without visiting the Polish War cemetery there - it is a magnificent memorial, moving and peaceful, and very beautiful with a great view of the abbey. There is a clear and most informative narration of the battles that took place, with maps and photos, in the visitor centre at the entrance of the cemetery. Do not walk past it. (There are no restrooms here, it is not that kind of visitor centre). The cemetery itself is a place to stand and reflect on a gallant people victimised and betrayed by all main players in WWII yet who served with great distinction and honour to abolish fascism and nazism — lest we forget them again!

In the museum, you get to read the bravery of the 2nd Polish Corp Army and their sacrifice for freedom touched me deeply. Honestly, I was not prepared to read what I saw. Soldiers’ sacrifice are not uncommon during WW2 but to fight on another country’s soil tells you a lot of the belief they hold dear to break the German’s defence and head towards Rome and eventually free their motherland. I feel humbled by these fallen soldiers.

The cemetery itself is impressive, but watching volunteers lying on the ground to clean and repair the markers makes one realize that 75 years has not diminished the dedication to always remember those who fell here.

There is ore to visit than the Polish Cemetary. You have to go up the hill across to view where thehPolish army used the pincer mouvement. There is also a very good musuem in Cassino run by Polish citizens.

Nice little place near the monastery. Not very much to see, it’s a polish cemetery with more than 1000 victims of 1944...

We want to visit the museum at the cemetery on this Friday, Aug. 13. Will it be open?

Hi
I'm sorry I don't know. The cemetery itself is pretty much always open and accessible but I think that like most places the actual museum is unlikely to be open between 13.00 and 15.00. If you avoid those times it should be ok I would think, especially as this is peak season.

There is a small museum at the cemetery. It was closed during our last visit. Does anyone know when it opens for the season and the hours of operation. We are planning to return soon. Thank you.
