Staying in Castellammare di Stabia, we had read about these excavations but not much is made about them in the guidebooks. We decided to get a taxi from our hotel and were glad that we did as it would have been a long, hot walk...More

Excellent excavations without the crowds and free entry. Within walking distance of Castellammare di Stabia (allow 20 minutes from the train station) Very interesting if you are fascinated by excavations from Vesuvius

This place is huge and at least as well preserved as Villas in Pompeii - but without the crowds. If you want to spend a lot of time and see a variety of buildings and squares, then trudging around with the hordes in the heat...More

Be sure that you do not miss the Mystery House, it's is at the very far end of the city, but it's one of the best preserved building with magnificent frescos! Little tip: at the book shop you can find a sort of pop up...More

I didn't notice any taxis by the station when I was there - I agree with KTGP that it would probably be better to phone or e-mail to book one.
