Less impressive than the Monreale cathedral but still worth a visit when in Cefalu. It is within easy walking distance from the coastline.

Set back in a pretty square under the cliff lies this beautiful cathederal built by Roger 11 in gratitude for finding refuge in the town after a violent storm at sea. The mosaics are rich and showy and well preserved. Certainly worth a visit

Not pretty outside. Dark inside. Very nice mosaics in apse. The central mosaic is impressive. Heavy Islamic influence which adds to the interest, particularly in the wooden ceiling. Dates to 1131. Relative to other cathedrals and churches in Sicily this earns an average rating. If this review is helpful then please indicate so below.

In the middle of the old town of Cefalu you may find this beautiful Norman cathedral. A lot of good restaurants nearby.

Cefalu was always on my list because I love Norman architecture. I booked a room and made the trip last week. The most interesting part of the cathedral is the external architecture. Inside, not much to see, that is, nothing compared to the Palermo cathedral, or Monreale. The original stain glass windows apparently all broken and were replaced with something... More

We visited in September. Was quite hot. We stayed in Palermo. Drove to Cefalu in hired car. Took the cable car. That was ok. Once you reach cefalu you get lost in the authenticity of the place. You can get lots of local food, eateries, goodies. We took a sunset walk in the city. The castle towards the end looks... More

The duomo was stunning! A must see if you are in Cefalu. The mosaics are amazing. So much history here.

The view of the church and the plaza directly below the massive, forbidding cliffs is as beautiful a site as one could want visiting an exotic land. The Norman fortress church itself was very pretty, not only on the outside but also on the inside. We especially enjoyed sitting at one of the cafes on the perimeter of the plaza,... More
