Mosaics are beautiful but only in a portion of the church unlike Monreale or the Capella Palletina in Palermo. The town itself is dead in December.

This cathedral is probably THE most viisted monument of Cefalu! It's shape is really interesting... looks like a castle! When you go in... the main attraction (which you can't miss), is the very beautiful altar with the famous Jesus painting on top! We even got a little surpirse... we got to witness a wedding! I remember her name was Valeria,... More

not as ornate as some in Italy it is more simple and thus more beautiful (in my opinion). The wooden vaulted ceiling and high windows add to the feeling of holiness and peace.

This cathedral is one of the most famous sites to visit in Cefalu. Beginning with the massive wooden doors at the entrance it's just one unique photographic opportunity after another.

This is a beautiful church towering over the little town of Cefalu. It was built by Roger, the norman king of Sicily, with norman-arab architecture and it wanted to be buried there, rather than in Palermo cathedral. It has beautiful byzantine mosaic: that of Christ is considered by many the best representation ever. As expected, the town and the duomo... More

The cathedral is a real mix of styles which do in-fact blend well together. The setting is spectacular, nestled under Cefalu's 'rock' and above the open-air cafe square One of many weddings was taking place on the Saturday we visited. This really brought home the atmosphere of the building

The mosaics were done at the time of the split in the church so you have eastern saints on one side and western on the other. Look out for the cross which is painted on both sides, but you only get to see the other side at Easter,

Love the fusion of Arab and Norman culture. This magnificent church has fantastic Byzantine mosaics telling many stories from the Bible and also contains arabesque patterns of inlaid work. The mosaics contain real gold leaf. High above Christ Pantocrator looks down on everyone with a mild look on His face. Don't miss the cloisters with their carved capitols.

We wandered into the duomo just before a wedding. Lovely church equisite paintings and mosaics. The wedding brought the church to life with the organ playing and the guests all waiting in anticipation for the bride. Worth a visit even without the celebration.
