About

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We thoroughly enjoyed visiting the site. It is fascinating and unique, with its history spreading across thousand of years. You need to book the tour online but it was very straightforward. Our guide was informative, engaging and fluent in English.

It was hard to find this place, but it was worth of. You cannot go there without a guide, but she will tell the history of this place and will answer your questions. Great place if you are fond of history or just searching for memorable places.

When you walking the city center you cant imagine that under you feet is historical place! Yes it's in Formia (like one friend say Cali Formia).
So the local Vincento show us Cisternone, only thing he speaks only Italy. But there is not a big deal. The all history of Cisternone is greatfull. So if you are in formia you must visit it.

We visited this place with a local guide( it’s necessary to visit with a guide which is included in the price) the guide explained a little history and we could ask questions too. The only thing to pay attention is it’s very dark inside so difficult to take photos unless you go with a real camera.
Worth of visiting if you go to Formia.

Fantastic!! It was amazing to go beneath the city and see the amazing work of the Romans. The guide was fantastic translating into English for us. Only €3 to enter. In a lovely district of Formia (some great places to eat afterwards really nearby). In July and August open Tuesday-Sunday from 7pm - don't go by what the website says (as we waited all week and turned up at 4.30pm!)

...while taking a walk! As we descended the planked bridges leading into Formia’s ancient cistern, the dark and cool corridors led us back to the earliest years of civilization and into the cavernous realm where water still drips and circulates. Our knowledgeable guide shared the history and rediscovery of this archeological gem while binging in the stories of Cicero, Caesar, and the Saracens! A great find. Do not miss this!

I can truly recommend to visit this astonishing attraction, especially when you stay in Formia/Gaeta. A lady who is a guide is very nice and really know history of the place, she was able to answer for every question regarding cisternone Romano and Formia history :)
