We didn't know the life of Annunzio the poet so to learn about him and his life was interesting. The garden is lovely and the view on the lake beautiful as well as the villa.

Fascinating and we'll worth a visit. But wierd. For twenty years d'Annunzio built a gigantic monument to his own ego. Old soldiers sent him memorabilia and he exchanged certificates of valour and appreciation with other imploded ultranationalists. The government humoured him by sending him large scale trophies like the prow of a battleship to build into the mountain above his... More

Other than fascinating. Clearly a very eccentric if a little misguided politically. The guided tour around the house is essential to get a sense of what's going on but it's so eclectic there's no real theme. It reminded me of Port Meirion in Wales a little with lots of strange nooks and crannies dotted about. Half a battleship built into... More

This was a gem, tucked away and, not having heard of the author, wasn't sure what to expect. the house was dark inside and cluttered but had an very interesting story and worth a visit. Would be of little interest for most children but the gardens would be great to explore for young and old alike.

Terraced gardens set into the hillside with spectacular views over Lake Garda. Within the gardens you will also find a Priory which can be visited, and a museum and exhibition which celebrates the lifetime achievements of the Italian Poet, Author and Hero D'Annunzio Be prepared for plenty of steps ~ the patth are generally well maintained but the walks take... This is a good place to spend the afternoon. Previous home of a famous Italian poet/writer, bequeathed as a museum. The gardens are beautifully kept but are quite steep in places.

Wasn't sure what to expect from this place but was pleasantly surprised . Bizarre, quirky and totally reflecting the eccentric man who designed it. So much to look at in all of the individual rooms and not enough time ( with a guide) the gardens are amazing and contain a full size replica of a ship ! It was raining... More

Large area to explore and good mobility an advantage. The planting not particularly luxuriant or well tended but it was later in the season. The "monuments" to the poet Gabriele d'Annunzio were a bit OTT but spectacular nonetheless.

What a place - really glad to have seen it - definitely would recommend a visit - especially if the weather is good. Beautiful buildings, grounds and views - and a fascinating guy behind it all. Must have been some wild and fun times. Read up on him beforehand to build that extra meaning behind your visit.

This is both an intriguing and beautiful place to visit. It can be reached by an uphill walk from the centre of Gardone Riviera or by catching the road train near the ferry jetty for 3euros return. You can do the whole package of house and gardens or just pay to visit the gardens. We only visited the latter. There... More
