Was it worth the long and often steep climb to get here? Oh yes it was. Although the houses are now occupied, it did not diminish the sense of history we got from walking around. The Osteria opened just a few minutes after we arrived and the cold beer was very welcome. Apart from the bar itself, the interior is very much the same as it would have been, all those years ago. Sat by the millstone, there really was a sense of being transported back in time. The other properties, although clearly having had some attention, were still totally in keeping with the location, only the new doors giving away.the modern-day inhabitants. Sit down for a minute in the square, close your eyes and you are transported back in time.. Going back to the ascent, we were fortunate to start talking with an Italian family, children, parents and grandparents from Milan or Turin, I can't remember now and we encouraged each other all the way up the ascent. Ladies do not wear open toed sandals as it'll kill your feet on the way down. In summary, a wonderful experience and one that will get you searching the internet for more info when you get home.…

Keep going up around a series of bends and you will come to a signpost after a steep section near some villas with a pictorial representation of a donkey cart pointed to the village. The views over the coast are stunning and the restored village worth exploring.…

Lovingly restored by Thor Heyerdahl and family over a sixty year period, Colla Micheri is a hidden gem. Walk in this tiny village and get an idea of Italian life in the middle ages. Hike to the top of the hill, and explore a Roman watch tower! The view from here is amazing in all directions. Well worth a visit. There is a seasonal restaurant in the village.…
