About
I'm Andrea and I live in Lecce, the city where I was born. I have been working in the restaurant business since 2007, but I grew up in the family bar, which we still own today. After several experiences abroad, in a 5 * L Hotel, I work at a wine shop in Lecce and organize wine tours and tasting for wine lovers. I have been a professional sommelier since 2013, passionate about Apulian wine history and a profound connoisseur of local vines and small producers. Are you ready to discover the Puglia of wine?

Excellent tour. We visited two wineries that were very different - which was a great contrast. Learned a lot about the history of wines in the region and the types of grapes they use. We were also lucky because we were able to taste reserve wines at these wineries. Would highly recommend for anyone interested in learning/trying local wines. Andrea really went all out to ensure a great experience!

Andrea organized for us an outstanding wine tasting tour of a couple of wineries in Salento. He immediately understood what we were looking for and send us a proposal which perfectly fit what we were looking for. The tour itself was top notch level where Andrea was able to explain everything we needed to know about the history of Salento wines while displaying a deep knowledge of the wine process. Everything was organized to perfection. We were totally satisfied of the day we spent together tasting some of the most amazing wines which were totally new to us. Highly recommend.

We had a lovely time with Andrea, he taught us a lot about the history of wine in the area, how to properly taste and enjoy wine. The location is really nice and Andrea is very kind! This is definitely a great option whether you have a lot or very little knowledge of wine. Thank you Andrea!

Andrea greeted us at the door of the lovely B&B he manages with his wife. We went up to the rooftop for our wine tasting class - what a beautiful vista with a nearly full moon overlooking the gold-lit city.
The class began with a description of the centuries old history of wine in Puglia and its still stellar place in the production of European wines.
With his training as a sommelier, Andrea was able to provide us with tips to more fully appreciate a glass of vino - noting the wine’s appearance in a glass, the color, different scents, and how/when to take the first sips.
We tried a white, a rosato and two reds. All were excellent and we explored the reasons why we liked each of them. Each wine was accompanied by the proper cheese and meats along with an explanation of why they were the most appropriate choices.
Andrea is serious about his teaching without being overbearing or pompous. His easy style included a casual sense of humor and was educational but also realistic. It was a pleasure to spend the evening with him. We learned more about wines in general and, specifically, about the impressively lovely wines of Puglia. We would definitely recommend this class.

We spent an evening with Andrea tasting a white, rosato and red that he selected only after discussing our preferences and “getting a sense of our palate.” He paired each with creamy, sharp, and salty foods to demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses of each combination and making the indelible point that wine enjoyed by itself is wonderful and wines with foods should hopefully compliment each other. He discussed the mechanics of technical tasting and instructed us, in a comprehensive way, to observe, smell and taste in an organized manner.

He has a gift for teaching and a gentle joviality that made the time fly by but still feel concentrated with information and insight. The wines were each very enjoyable. He chose from our price range and to reflect varietals we had not yet experienced in Puglia . A real pleasure.

We enjoyed our wine tour with Andrea and Puglia Wine Tour so much. We had a chance to see and enjoy small wineries that were different but both fantastic. The wines were wonderful and the winery hosts were so welcoming. Andrea is very knowledgeable about Puglia wines!

We just went on a truly extraordinary wine tour in Puglia, Italy with a remarkable guide, Andrea De Carlo. I contacted Andrea on his Puglia Wine Tour website before we left for Italy and told him that one of my very favorite wines was produced near Lecce, his home. He was, of course, very familiar with the wine. He explained that the winemaker produces only a very small amount of wine and they generally don’t offer tours. Still, he was able to arrange a private tour and tasting of this incredible winemaker.

We met him at his B&B in Lecce and a driver took us to the first of two completely different wine producers. The forty-minute drive passed very quickly as Andrea shared his knowledge of the region with us. He speaks English fluently, and his commentary about the area was both entertaining and informative. He told us about the history of the Puglia, olive oil production, and of course, the wines of the region. He had a deep knowledge that he happily shared with all of us. Even the members of our group who were not as versed in wines as I am, enjoyed the tour enormously. The second winery we visited was a larger producer and was equally interesting. We tasted a variety of wines from the region and really enjoyed our time with Andrea. He was as comfortable talking about Puglia, the sights and restaurants, as he was describing the nuances of tastes and smells of wine. He was so warm and generous with his time, it seemed as if we now have a friend in Puglia.

Andrea was fantastic
We have traveled many places and have taken many guided tours, this was by far the BEST. Andrea is kind, extremely knowledgeable, articulate and funny. His English is perfect, with a lovely Italian accent
From start to finish he was the most accommodating guide. When visiting Puglia you MUST take his tour. We’ll come back and do it again the next time we’re here.
Also we’d like to stay at his B&B, Palazzo Belsanti, right across the street from Historic Lecce. Gorgeous accommodations in a spectacularly convenient location

We had the great pleasure of visiting the Vallone and Tenute rubino wineries with Andrea. He is passionate about wine and very proud of the local heritage. He explained the process of production and many features of the vineyards, grapes, and history. The tasting itself was also phenomenal and my nose and palate seemed to enjoy the experience as much as I did. Highly recommend.

In early October 2019 we had the privilege of spending 5-6 hours with Andrea, Puglia Wine Tasting. Our party of 4 (a driver, Andrea, my husband and me) headed out about 10 AM and returned to Palazzo Belsanti where we were staying around 3-4 PM. As we drove to the first winery, Andrea talked about the history of the area in relation to wine production, the commitment to using ONLY local grapes and about some of the many of varietals grown in the area, most of which we hadn't heard of before. First stop was Apollonio Wine Company where Diletta was our knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. This winery, located in the Lecce/Salento area, was established in 1870 and is now 4th generation owned. Here we tasted a number of vintages of red, white and rose wines with most produced from primitivo and negroamaro grapes. We toured the lower level and learned how the wine used to be made and then worked our way upwards through the building to the current working and holding areas. The entire experience was wonderful: filled with great information, wonderful tastings and much laughter. We actually brought a couple of bottles back to Canada: one a Rose that has been aged in Acacia barrels for 12 months and then another 6 months in the bottle; something we hadn't heard of before! Delicious! Then we headed to the second winery, Tenute Rubino, located in the Brindisi area. TR is a family-owed operation in a modern setting. The tasting here was conducted by Anna, again very knowledgeable and informative. The wines were wonderful and, after we left the winery itself, we attended Tenute Rubino's Brindisi harbour-front restaurant for a gourmet luncheon paired with their wines. Unfortunately our suitcases couldn't accommodate more wine but again, they were excellent! This day was my birthday gift to my husband (it was actually his birthday that day) and he tells everyone it was the best day and experience of our 3 week Italian holiday. We would highly recommend using Andrea/Puglia Wine Tour if you are in the area.
