When we arrived there, we thought it could be Very interesting site to visit. The castle is very impressive and the museum inside merges in a brilliant way. When climbing to the top of the tower, there are options to rest in different floors and enjoying the view. Of course the most impressive sites are from the top where the old bell is located.

Visited here with family whilst on vacation to Lake Garda region. Was my favourite castle of the region and had some incredible views both North and South into the lake.
Not too strenuous to get around for grandparents either due to great stair system. We want early in the morning as well when not too busy whereas was getting far more crowded by the time we left.
Loved this area so much I paddle boarded round to it again the next day to see the castle from the water (entirely different perspective).

The castle isn't huge, but it only costs €6 to visit, so it's worth doing.
The tower has displays about history connected to the lake, and then you can take stairs to the top floor. These are one way, so people coming up and down have to wait is there is someone cunning the other way.
Nice views of the lake at the top, and a very very long rifle-like gun. No explanations as to what it is for.
Then you can wander round the grounds and walls.
If you're here it's worth visiting. At night it is floodlit, so a nice backdrop if you ready nearby

We went in high season (August) on a slightly overcast day and were pleased to find it was fairly quiet with no queues. The entrance charge was reasonable, I think it was around e6 each.
The castle and in grounds are really interesting, particularly as they have some environmental sculptures in the grounds.
There are lots of steps to climb to the top - well worth it for the stunning view.

Very beautiful castle in the city center, easily spotted and definitely a must visit, when you are on Lake Garda.
Price is 6 EUR for 1 adult person and for children is 3 EUR (6-13 years). Under 6 years is free.
For the parking you must park a couple of hundreds meters away in the garage or public places, because the castle is in pedestrian zone.
Inside you have only one vending machine at the entrance, but don't worry on the way to the castle there are a plenty of shops, restaurants and coffee shops.
Very nice castle indeed with a museum inside and art gallery. And of course amazing view from the top on the city and Lake Garda!

From the castle, you have a fantastically beautiful view over the northern part of Lake Garda. Here you also have a tower that you can enter. It is completely dark inside the tower, so it is almost impossible at times to see the many steps up to the top of the tower. The castle has one entrance. But, if you want to go out, you - have to - go out another way, which is signposted.

We did not expect much from this castle but it was surprisingly impressive.
OK, a lot of it is a shell and only a small area has exhibits in it, but you can walk around much of the battlements getting good views over land and water - best of all is climbing up a good easy staircase to the top of the tower, from where the views are excellent.
It does get busy at times because the town is such a popular tourist attraction but it is still well worth a visit.

I recommend the visit. We were hesitant whether to enter or not, but we were satisfied. Nice panoramic point from the tower, after more than 100 steps (the children counted 128). The museum inside the castle is also very interesting; the animal species that populate Lake Garda as well as the wildlife of the mountains are described. A part also dedicated to flora. The kids loved it too. No stroller.

Malcesine Castle, located on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, is a fascinating example of medieval architecture. Built in the 14th century, the castle offers breathtaking panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Its well-preserved structure includes towers, imposing walls and a delightful garden, making it an ideal destination for lovers of history and nature.
Inside, the museum houses exhibitions that tell the local history and life in the medieval period. The visit to the castle is enriched by walks along the paths leading to the panoramic points, ideal for taking unforgettable photos.
We will definitely return, even if it was a rainy day we will not forget this view

Parking is not great and restricted due to small streets. We stayed at a local hotel (Dolomiti) which had its own parking but you could park in the local church courtyard and walk to the castle if you like - parocchia di Santo stefano
