This is clearly a very important archaelogical site, but, though the short boat trip to the 'island' was fun, the ruins were less than inspiring. (This is based on having explored several other sites in Sicily on this visit and a previous one.) The artefacts...More

Unfortunately we allowed too little time on the island to do it justice. We managed to walk around only about a quarter of the coastline and had to skip the last room in the museum. The museum has a lovely marble statue and many artifacts....More

Sicily is loaded with old stones and great excavations but if you think Phoenician this may be your only chance. A lovely ride from Marsala past the salt pans. Take a short boat ride over what seems to be knee water.

Enjoyed a bite at a cafe beside the salt flats before taking a 10 minute ferry to the small island of Mozia. The centerpiece of the archeological museum on the island is a prized statue, the Youth of Mozia (aka The Mozia Charioteer), which is...More

This spot between Tapani and Marsala has both an interesting salt production site (tours available but we decided against that) and the visit by boat to an island with a Pheonician settlement and small museum. The latter was a nice walk with the kids and...More

The island of Mozia sits in a shallow cove near Marsala. It houses reportedly the most extensive Carthaginian ruins in the world. Fascinating museum, and active digs still ongoing on the island. When you catch the boat back to the mainland, eat at the little...More

The island is interesting (tho entry is expensive on top of the boat fare) for an afternoon of looking at the excavating phonecian remains and pondering the history and people behind them. The museuams pride and joy is the mozia boy - or motya charioteer...More

The boat trip is short and fun. The museum is interesting with an enormous quantity of material (though kind of crowded together like a child's rock collection). For anyone interested in archeology, this is an important stop.
