We really enjoyed learning about the history of the caves and enjoyed getting out of the hot August sun for a little while. It was interesting to see how creatively the ancient residents built and used the caves. Entire businesses were run within the caves. Our tour only covered a small portion of the large network beneath the town, but... More

Just fascinating. A well directed tour, certainly a "must see" if you are visiting Orvieto. And if you happen to be in Orvieto when it's hot out, you will definitely welcome the cool, underground temperatures. An amazing history and architecture lesson. Don't miss this. Tickets for the guided tour can be purchased near the Duomo.

The cave underneath the city of Orvieto tell a fascinating story going back to the time of the Etruscans. Certainly worth a visit.

i did this tour with my boyfriend, but my dad and stepmother/brothers did it was well a different day. We all concluded that it is a MUST SEE for those visiting Orvieto! The only thing I will say is that if you are extremely claustrophobic you may want to skip it... there is a part with a very tight climb... More

Amazing history associated with these caves. You can see where the pigeons resided as well as where they made olive oil. Lots of steps, but worth it

The history and stories are amazing. Tour guide very articulate and engaging describing ancient life underground. It's an engaging hour long tour and especially welcoming in the hot temperatures. If you have any trouble with mobility or tight spaces, this could be challenging. Lots of stairs, both spiral and large steps, and hallways that feel like holes to go through.... More

My husband and I did the cave tour and our guide was Alessia, she was very informative and knowledgeable. The caves are a result of 3,000 years of digging over the ages and were used extensively for farming pigeons. The ceiling rock was used to mix with limestone to make cement. The stories of the caves are worth hearing and... More
