Stayed in Palinuro during a trip to Southern Italy.

We knew beforehand about this beautiful place.

On the day we arrived it was late afternoon and the sea was choppy, so they recommended to wait till the next morning.

Next morning we showed up. The sea was still a bit choppy, so the guy in the tickets booth said we'd be able to see only the grotta azure, which is the 1st stop, and it was up to the fisherman to decide whether it's be possible to continue the trip.

Luckily for us, he proceeded and we had the chance to view the beautiful coast, visit the various caves - and we even extended the boat ride to see a natural arch and a secluded beach about 15 minutes away from the last planned stop (total of about 30 minutes additional round trip).

Bottom line, I appreciated the caution they took - and loved the landscape!

Highly recommended.

Dear Customer, thank you for your wonderful review. I assure you that this is not a phrase of circumstance, but a thanksgiving for one of the nicest reviews that we have received. Our company always tries to give the best to satisfy our customers, often having to fight with the adverse weather conditions. It's never easy having to assess the state of the sea. With a bit of luck we were able to make the full tour and we are very happy about this. With deep affection and esteem. THANK YOU the Management

We had the grotto to ourselves. We hired a small boat and skipper who took us around the Peninsular and into the grotto.

The drive into Palinuro is worth the trip itself- so beautiful! The town is great but the drive to the port is breathtaking! Here you park your car and just go down to the beach and find a vendor selling boat trips. It was one of the best 15 Euros we spent. The water is blue, the sights gorgeous, and we even stopped at a little cove and had a delicious (and expensive) surprise lunch. The grotto was all it was cranked up to be

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

The tour provider will happily take you on a trip to the blue grotto at 9am, but the guide will tell you that the blue light effect is much more spectacular in the afternoon when the opening in the rocks gets direct sunlight.

There are about 60 caves and 5 grottos in Capo Palinuro. The grottos are visited by boat tours starting from Palinuro harbour or Marina di Camerota. You can also hire a boat but then you may not enter the grottos. The biggest of them is grotto azzurra which can well compare with her famous sister on Capri Island. Others are smaller with stalagmites in different colors. The blue water is amazing.
But there is a second world below, much larger and only accessible for divers. Fabio Barbieri‘s Palinuro Sub dive center brings you there. They know the caves well and love to show all the marine life there. I have been there four times so far, still new and marvelous things to discover...

After so many good reviews .... if you come from Australia as we do these beaches are poor and the boat trip to the cave nice enough for €15.
If you've been travelling around countryside it's a nice change to be in the water. Don't try to go to the toilet before or after trips as there is one toilet for everybody.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, lush vegetation, crystal clear waters and a coast stretching for 100 km:
The Blue Grotto
Is the cave most known to tourists and the easiest to get by boat, just outside the harbor of Palinuro, and is therefore the most visited, also thanks to the spectacular play of light that can be seen on the surface of the water, which magically, especially at certain times of the day, is colored by an intense blue. The maximum depth of the cave is 33 metres.
To reach it you can catch a small boat which departs from the port of Palinuro and which may also include the possibility of excursions to discover the caves of Capo Palinuro like this one, the Blue Grotto. Current charge is €15 p.p.for a 90 minute boat ride.
