This castle was built in the mid 1200s but never fully completed, only the outer walls and towers. It is the only example of Swabian style architecture in North central Italy. Although empty inside it is an impressive building and free to enter. There are also info boards in English. Some works are being done on one wall.

I thought we were gong to be able to go to the top for views of the city. It was blocked off and all you were allowed to do is walk around the grassy interior. We even checked back later to see if the time of the day was just off but it wasn't. Also one side of the wall... More

Walking from the train station into town, this castle in on the way. A UNESCO site, it is free to come in. The ramparts offer a stunning view across Prato. Well worth the time.

We arrived at the fortress excited to see what was inside such a commanding structure - you can see it from a distance and we were looking forward to our visit. When we approached it from one side, we saw a huge staircase leading up to a massive doorway so we ventured that direction but the doors were bolted shut.... More

If you are in Prato a visit to castle is a must- it has great views out over the city and the surrounding hills. The light at dusk would be great for taking photos- we were there at midday so was also a good photo time

This provide a stunning 360 view of Tuscany from the top. I love looking at different clousters of the many churches around Prato. Climbing up and down could be tricky for the frails as the stairs are uneven and steep. Wheelchair access was there but wasn't working, sadly.

One of the many Castles in Tuscany. If you like castles and their history than visit while in Prato. Various areas in Tuscany is enclosed with a overpowering wall. Good history to research.

This is one of the most ancient castle in italy. It was built for emperor Federico and is a symbol for Prato. Is located in the same place of the church of Santa Maria delle Carceri, another mileston of the treasures of Prato.
