Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place is mind blowing. This ancient palace houses the most amazing frescoes I've ever seen, in the most amazing level of preservation. Each room is more impressive than the next. Some frescoes tell scenes of hunting, some are exquisite patterned designs. There is lots of English info available. Wonderful place and a must-see! Give a generous donation to keep the palace running as it is free entry!

This museum presents a lucid perspective on the history of the textile trade in medieval Europe - based on the trading records of Francesco Datini's company (he died in 1410). The records were discovered walled up under a staircase, and they afford extremely interesting insights into the commercial history of the late Middle Ages. (Comparable work based on trade records from late medieval England has been done by Dr. Laura Wright, Cambridge.) Medieval Italian history comes alive in this museum.

The beautifully decorated exterior gives you an indication of the huge wealth of its former owner, Datini. But don't leave it there step inside and discover the amazing story of this 14 th century entrepreneur who also donated substantial amounts of his money to the poor- the house itself is free, part of Datini's legacy, but you can leave a donation.all the info is in italian & English so it's highly accessible. No tea room ,but there's a very friendly cafe directly opposite for the end of your tour. It's quite small so allow 1 hour.

Palazzo Datini is the ornately decorated house of Francesco di Marco Datini, a merchant who, having been born in Prato, returned to make himself a home. The house, which is free to visit, reminded me of Roman houses, with their murals depicting nature. This warm and lively style of design is a far cry from the bleak stone walls we usually associate with life of the time. Information about Datini, and his long suffering wife, Margherita, is available in English, and makes fascinating reading.
Check the opening times, since they may be different from those on the website.

I had seen the outside of this building in the morning and it intrigued me. Why was it painted? And why was the structure different from the neighboring ones? So I decided to visit it in the afternoon, especially because there was no entry fee! I have definitely been very satisfied with my choice because this well-preserved residence is filled with original Medieval documents and lots of panels that explain them, the biography of the Datini family and the historical context in which they lived. I couldn't leave before reading them all, because I felt like travelling back in time! The painted rooms are just beautiful!
A fascinating place, a must-see if you travel to Prato!

The history of Datini is incredible like the discover of his archive of the 13th century.

The extraordinary archive Datini was walled in a stairwell into disuse and was found only in the nineteenth century. It was a sensational discovery, the richness, the completeness and the state of conservation.

In this museum you can see most of the archive.

The pleasure of reading Iris Origo's fascinating book The Merchant of Prato will be enhanced by visiting the Palazzo Datini where he lived. Trouble has been taken to display such things as trade routes and his domestic life, which all add to the story you have read.

I wish I'd lived in this house ! Built in 1300s, it has lots of paintings all over the walls, lovely courtyard and hall/entry; and history of the merchant and his business empire. Free entry, English guide information available.
