The Bastione, a tower of grey stone, located at the foot of Mount Rocchetta, is one the symbols of Riva del Garda, overlooking the city and Lake Garda. It was built in the early XVI century, just after the end of Venetian domination over Riva. It was destroyed in 1703 by the French troops under leadership of general Vendôme, who mined the main body thus rendering it unusable. It’s a few minutes walk from the port of Riva, along a road that winds through the black pinewood of the lower Rocchetta. The path then rises further to the chapel of St. Barbara on the mountainside (610m) and the Rocchetta itself (1520m). The Bastione has recently been restored. Visitors may see the imposing external bodywork and what is left of the inside from a winding staircase. The locations enjoys an excellent view.

Very nice, but one should continue the walk to the little Church Santa barbera, where you can see the village from the top

We spent some days in Riva and decided to go up to the "Bastione". You can stop your car direct where the walk way beginns after the circle. I would also go to Santa Barbara but caused of a bad knee we didn't. The way until the "Bastione" ist really well, there are 2 "lanes" in a distance of car... More

The most beautiful castle i`ve ever been to. You have to walk to get up there and it takes some time but it doesnt matter because when you get there you will be happy and the view from there is so beautiful, if you want to, you can sit there for a coffee and enjoy the beautiful view!

There is a footpath all the way up to this - it's steep, but plenty of places to sit and rest. Well worth the climb, and you can have a nice drink at the cafe. The old fort is well maintained and you can go inside. Great views.

My wife and I took the mile long walk up to this old Venician fort on a bright sunny January morning. It is s lovely uphill walk which may test anybody who has trouble climbing slopes but there are several benches along the way to take rest breaks if required. The track is well paved all the way. At the... More

There is a small walk from the town up the side of the mountain, which is an incline but it's completely do-able in just cheap pumps, no hiking gear needed. The view from the top is absolutely beautiful over the whole town and the lake! Nice cafe/bar at the top that does a lovely aperol spritz and food. Definitely worth... More

Not much to see and the restaurant was closed on October. This was first stop in the longer hike but I would not recommend to climb here just because of this Bastion.
